The means of Zsolnay and the products deserve 5 🌟… unfortunately the rip-off machine works well, all about money, and more money from tourists. From room to room (expected from the shopping area) you must PAY. It was a big surprise we didn’t have to pay just walking around on the Zsolnay’s grounds… As I said, I have a great respect and admiration for the Zsolnay products. I found a FREE car park outside on a street nearby- I’m not sure if it was free because it was Sunday or it is always free 🤷🏻♂️
Also, I’m just wondering what is the connection between Zsolnay and the space exploration?! That’s another exhibition, for another fee of charge.
Please, DO NOT PAY for them. Have a nice walk in the park, check all the free parts, buy if you like to.
Walked up to the Zsolnay Mausoleum… nice little climb up from the factory. It is (supposed to be) the burial place of the family. They tried to charge another 2000 HUF (€6) to see this…
Still worth to go up, but wouldn’t pay for to see a grave (if this is their real grave - locals said homeless people used this as a shelter and a toilet before the city has been granted with Capital of Culture title in 2010.
Lovely little town in the south, Pecs but unfortunately the corruption took over everything. This whole Zsolnay manufacturing site is far from the real meaning it was for decades or centuries.
Go, see and consider yourself. I highly recommend this place to visit, though I only recommend the FREE...
Read moreThe Zsolnay Negyed (Quarter/Precinct) is about 2km walk from the centre of Pécs/Széchenyi Tér. Many beautiful impressive buildings and statues with stunning, colourful Zsolnay ceramics on them. So many things to see and do here from guided tours of the ceramics factory, various shops and cafés, Children's museum, Ballet, etc etc. We went on a tour of the ceramics area and missed the first half as the ticket sales area directed us to the wrong starting point. Be aware that tickets are sold for the various attractions in multiple places, not necessarily where the attraction is. Signage is not particularly good and it's easy to get lost, it's a large precinct. Not everything is open every day, so make sure the attraction you want to see is open before you go! We spent about 4 hours here and it was nowhere near enough time. You really need binoculars or a telephoto lens to see much of the extraordinarily detailed and colourful decorations all over the buildings. The gardens themselves are also lovely with statues and fountains dotted throughout. Many of the buildings here have similarly decorative details on them and I have a sore neck from trying to...
Read moreThe idea, to use venues of former manufactories for cultural purposes sounds great. Especially, when the producing part of this factory also remained in there, just in a separated corner of the area. The cultural quarter hosts sights, like planetarium, concert hall, puppet theatre, historical and familiar exhibitions, museums, show manufactory of producing porcelain, show manufactory of producing gloves, public laboratories with many funny & popular experiments, interactive playgrounds, galleries, multifunctional venues for diverse events, souvenir shops, shops with traditional handmade goods, information services, ticket offices, cafés, restaurants and - of course - toilets. All these places offer something both for individuals as well as for families. A big "plus" of the entire quarter is, that there are plenty of free...
