During the Summer of 2022, my friends and I visited Lake Balaton for approximately 4 days. For context, I am a non-Hungarian speaking American and my friends are 100% Hungarian and speak the language fluently. When we arrived to Lake Balaton, I was at a loss for words in the best way possible- the area is stunning, the people were friendly and food and wine were incomparable! Everything I ate melted in my mouth, including the wine from Mr. Elias’s vineyard - Elias Estate. Mr. Elias’s vineyard is located on a gorgeous plot of land overlooking the lake and we were welcomed with open arms! We drove to the vineyard and buzzed to be let in, Mr. Elias and his friendly puppy greeted my friends and I like he’d known us for ages! This was my first time in Hungary and I was so excited; and I believe Mr. Elias was also as there aren’t many American’s that visit the area often. On this particular day, it was a bit rainy, so we had the entire vineyard to ourselves - this didn’t stop us or his family from hosting us. His wife and son also made us feel welcomed - and prepared food and many bottles of wine or tasting. Mr. Elias also allowed us to walk around the property; I was in awe of all the rosemary and other herbs flourishing on the property. I must say, despite the fact that I don’t speak Hungarian and Mr. Elias not speaking English, we all communicated and enjoyed ourselves for hours on end! I could go on forever speaking about the Elias family and how hospitable they were to us; but I’ll end this review by HIGHLY recommending the Elias Estate during your visit to the Lake Balaton region. Oh, and I brought 6 bottles of Elias wine back to the US with me! Thank you Mr. Elias and family, I hope to visit...
Read moreI was lucky that my local Balaton friends took me to Èliás vineyard! We took a long ride to visit this place because my friends said it’s worth it. We got the long wine tasting with 8 wines and we also had the opportunity to try some snacks with the tasting. It was an amazing experience from the beginning til the end. I suggest everyone who comes to Hungary to visit this place with amazing wines, nice hosts and the most amazing views you can get at a...
Read moreWe came lured by the positive opinions, but left disappointed. At the entrance nobody is interested in you, the owner and his young helper (assume son?) do not speak english almost at all. There is no EN menu, nobody cared to explain to us the style of wines. Prices are the same as online (which is disappointing, to be honest as you need to find the winery among small road). We felt not wanted in the place. The only plus is the view at Balaton and...
