Incredible museum with such a breadth of historic items. They've done a wonderful job of recreating period interiors in two of their houses, and the main museum has so many interesting bits from local history, including fishing equipment, boats, musical instruments, clothing, and calculating machines.
There are several displays set up almost like traditional workshops for sewing, blacksmithing, woodworking, and more.
The museum is under renovation so much of it was closed when we went, and I imagine there are many more wonderful things that will be on display when it is finished. Hopefully they may also be adding a bit more information in English (most labels are only in Icelandic).

The Museum is the type that you can go around in like 30 min or so but also u can spend there few hours, it all depends on how much you wanna experience it. You can see really old things as well as more up to date ones. And what fascinated me, there were maaaaaaaany things that u can touch. At the very first area there was a fisherman cloth "to try" as it was written. I tried and I had so much fun trying to take it off afterwards that I could barely breath haha. Read moreThe guided tour was definitively worth it, since most of the written cards of the exhibitions were in Icelandic (but they are working very hard into translating). The guide had a lot of knowledge and was very friendly with us. We learned soo much more about Icelandic lifestyle and history in only 2 hours than our whole 2 weeks...
