Very underrated! We visited at 9pm in August and there was no one else here. Very easy to park - was free

We came from selfoss and the road was paved the entire way, there is only a little stretch between here and the Reykjavik side which had to go slow, but there were no large lose rocks and it looked like they were working on it. Our tiny 2wd was fine.

It was like another planet, all the colours and steam! And you have the blue lake over the road. All looked amazing even though it was fully overcast and drizzly - maybe even added to the atmosphere.

I've done other geothermal landscapes: Geysir, Reykjadalur, Landmannalauger and still was amazed by this one, I wouldn't miss it. Great if you find yourself with extra time after the golden circle or south coast before heading...

My husband and I barely made it here. We planned on coming here the morning before our flight back and there was a bike race that shut down the roads to get here. We attempted a back rode option but were unsuccessful. Then after our disappointing defeat when we reamerged on to the main road again the signs were moved. Lol. We had 30 min before we had to leave so we booked it there and saw a very small portion of this area. I think theres more to it because there was a foot path that looked like you could use off of the wooden deck. I wish we had more time to see what else there was around the area. The drive down to it from Reykjavik was...

Seltún Geothermal Area is absolutely mesmerizing! Walking through the steaming vents and bubbling mud pots feels like stepping onto another planet. The colors of the earth—fiery reds, deep yellows, and eerie greens—are surreal and vivid, shaped by the intense geothermal forces beneath your feet. The boardwalks allow you to get safely close to the action, and the views are simply unforgettable. It’s quiet, raw, and incredibly photogenic. Seltún is a must-see for anyone exploring Iceland’s wild side—pure geothermal magic in its most beautiful, untamed form!
