Only viewed in passing as it was not open during the morning when I walked by. This old hospital is now a culture house. I was taken by its size and prominent appearances and had suspected it was a government house, but not so. One of the statues /sculptures on site looks like a rock divided into 4 quadrants. The lettering on the plaque has been worn away so unsure what it is all about.

Set on a beautiful green lawn with views of the cliffs and the harbor, this former hospital is now a cozy community library with a playground, small art exhibit, and small hospital museum. Free Wi-Fi, free restrooms, friendly staff, cozy warm book reading corners - these Westfjords folks are doing it right. Lovely library (not open early hours)!

Built in 1924-25 and formerly a hospital, Ísafjörður Culture House is now home to a library, an art collection and still retains some historic features from its days as a hospital. Entry is FREE and it's well worth a visit.
