Gola Ghar — Attraction in Assam

Gola Ghar, located in Sivasagar, Assam, is a historic structure built during the reign of Ahom king Chakradhwaj Singha (1663–1669 AD). Originally serving as an ammunition storehouse, it showcases the architectural ingenuity of the Ahom dynasty.

Structural Details:

Dimensions: The building measures approximately 22.8 meters in length, 11.7 meters in width, with walls 2.15 meters thick.

Design: Architecturally, it resembles a rectangular brick hut with a two-layered roof. Circular holes equipped with terracotta pipes, along with multiple square openings at the front and back, ensure adequate ventilation and prevent moisture accumulation.

Current Significance:

Today, Gola Ghar is a protected monument under the Archaeological Survey of India. It has been renovated into a museum gallery displaying various weapons, arms, armor, and illustrating the process of gunpowder making, offering insights into the military practices of the Ahom era.
