Gujri mahal small part — Attraction in Haryana

Gujari Mahal would have been part of Firoz Shah Tughlaq’s extensive palace complex, but now it is approached through a separate gate of its own, further on from Firoz Shah’s Palace (the entrance lies just beyond the traffic crossing past the bus stand). No entry fee is charged, and when we visited, we were the only people around.

The story goes that Firoz Shah Tughlaq had fallen in love with a gujar (nomad) woman from Hisar, and had wanted her to come with him to Delhi. She refused to leave her native Hisar, so Firoz Shah built a palace for her here. The palace now consists only of a rather small arched pavilion with battered walls (sloping in the style typical of the Tughlaqs).
