This interesting and unusual mosque is located inside the palace complex of Firoz Shah at Hisar. It consists of three distinct structures: the mosque itself, which is a pillared, L-shaped building; another small domed building, and a tall stone pillar which dates back to the 3rd-4th centuries BCE, and had been erected by Ashoka the Great. The lower section of the pillar has some very faded markings from Ashoka’s time; the upper portion of the pillar, in red sandstone, has much clearer carvings and inscriptions about the Tughlaqs.
Just as Firoz Shah re-used Ashoka’s pillar, he also probably reused other pillars: the carved stone pillars of the mosque might once have belonged to Hindu temples.
