The Army Heritage Museum, in Shimla is located in the heart of the hills at Annandale, in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, India . The museum showcases plenty of information about the Indian Army and the wars they’ve fought. There’s a lot to explore, including a hall where a friendly soldier helps the visitors to wear virtual reality (VR) headsets to experience the famous battles and an another hall where visitors are encouraged to try their hand at the simulated gun firing and practice their shooting skills. The location of the museum surrounded by mountains, deodar trees, lush-greenery and huge lawns is an experience of its kind in Shimla. With its altitude of 6,117 feet above sea level, the museum houses a wonderful collection of modern and traditional weapons, uniforms, flags, armoury and other military items. I don’t know why, but whenever we visit an army location, we are filled with a sense of pride for the forces and our adrenaline runs high. Our forces deserve a big salute. There is a parade ground, a Golf Course and a Helipad nearby. A Cactus Museum exists within the premises housing a variety of cactus plants with exotic names. A cafe, a souvenir shop, clean toilets, and drinking water facilities are also available. At a distance of around 5 kilometres from the Ridge in Shimla and 2 kilometres away from Shimla Railway Station, the Army Heritage Museum is easily accessible. The collection here consists of ancient items like bows and arrows, swords, spears and also has modern weaponry. Army uniforms dating back to pre-independence time as well as after the independence are also kept here. Medals, rewards and awards of the Indian Army are also displayed. The museum also has the surrender letter of Pakistan Army of the 1971 war period. Photography is allowed inside. The museum opens on all days of the week except Monday & public holidays. The museum is surrounded by well maintained flowery gardens..... and adjusent to it, there is a lush green Golf course with surrounding scenic beauty one can only dream of. As you enter, you will have to buy tickets and can carry your phones/camera....good thing is photography is allowed inside the museum, so keep collecting your memories. A place for anyone who's genuinely interested in that sort of stuff.

It beautifully showcases the courage and sacrifices of Indian soldiers through well-maintained galleries filled with war artifacts, medals, weapons, uniforms, photographs, first day postal stamps, and detailed stories of heroism. One can take pics with Tank, diffrent types of Gun, RCL.

Read moreI visited the Army Heritage Museum on 28.12.2023 in Shimla last week and I was amazed by the rich history and culture of the Indian Army. The museum is located in Annadale, a beautiful suburb surrounded by snow-capped mountains and deodar trees. It is easy to reach by car or taxi from the city center.
The museum has four sections: Heritage, Himachal, Shaurya and Green House. Each section showcases different aspects of the army, such as uniforms, weapons, flags, awards, sports, peacekeeping missions, and conservation efforts. I learned a lot about the brave soldiers who fought for the nation and the world, and the great military leaders who inspired them. I also enjoyed seeing the ancient and modern arms and ammunitions, and the cactus plants in the Green House.
The museum is well-maintained and has a friendly staff. It is open from 10 am to 5 pm, except on Mondays. There is no entry fee, but donations are welcome. There is also a cafe where you can have some snacks and drinks. (You can avoid the cafe) The museum is a must-visit for anyone who loves history, patriotism, and nature. It is a hidden gem in Shimla that will make you proud of...
