I recently had the chance to visit Shimla Kali Bari, and it turned out to be one of the most peaceful and spiritually uplifting experiences of my trip. This temple, dedicated to Goddess Kali, is perched on a hill, offering a quiet escape from the hustle of Shimla’s busy streets. As I approached the temple, I was immediately struck by how calm and serene the place felt. The architecture is simple yet beautiful, with traditional wooden beams and a sloping roof that blend seamlessly with the surrounding greenery. Walking through the entrance, I was greeted by the soft scent of incense and fresh flowers. Even though it’s a popular spot, it didn’t feel overly crowded, which made the visit even more enjoyable. Inside, the temple houses a powerful statue of Goddess Kali, beautifully adorned with garlands and offerings. The energy in the room was something you could feel – a quiet, reverent atmosphere, with devotees offering prayers and lighting incense. I was lucky to have a brief conversation with the priest, who shared some of the temple’s history with me. He explained that it was built in 1845 and has been an important spiritual center in Shimla ever since. The Views: One of the things that really stood out was the view from the temple. Kali Bari Temple is located at Shimla, Himachal Pradesh and it is easily navigable via Google Maps. Make sure you are up for a good walk as it's only accessible by foot. Legend states that the name Shimla is said to have originated from the name 'Shyamala'. The original temple belonged to the goddess Shyamla-which was converted into Kali Bari by some Bengali devotees. The temple of Kali Bari was constructed in 1845 by Ram Charan Bhramachari, a Bengali man living on Jakhu Hill. Every year during Navratri, A pandal is set up and it's a sight to see. There is also a mini fair which happens and is a joy to experience. The temple is usually less crowded on weekdays but during holidays and auspicious days, please expect massive line and rush. There is facility of drinking water and a shoe house. A lot of vendors outside the temple sell prasaad which you can offer to the goddess as a token of gratitude. It's a religious mark in Shimla and while traveling to Shimla Hills, you should definitely aim to visit the temple once for blessings and a spectacular view. Must visit when in Shimla :)

The queen of hill Shimla is one of the top most attractive places to visit. And if you are in Shimla, then you should visit Shimla Kalibari. We had the opportunity to stay over there and have their food. Overall good experience. Fooding was awesome. Completely Bengali cuisine. Highly recommended to stay and have food.. nice view from room .. pre booking needed. If you wish to stay in Shimla Kalibari then you have to book the room at least one month prior by mailing them. It depends on the time, how much prior booking is required, you need to advance them, and if booking gets confirmed, then they will reply to you via mail. While checking in you need to show them the mail copy for confirmation. We thoroughly enjoyed the room, it was nice and cozy, and it was a nice view from the room. But the place is full of monkeys, so better take care. Also to mention while going to the Shimla Kalibari it was very tough as it was on the high side of the mountain, and very painful for older people and those who have knee problems. But you will enjoy it and must visit places in Shimla.

Shimla Kalibari is situated at the begining point of Mall Road, Shimla. This place is very near to Shimla Old Bus and Taxi stand also. So, this place is easily accessible for the tourists. Shimla Kalibari is basically Bengali Trast organization and maintained by the Bengalies. This place has basic accommodation facility and very good restaurant facility. Tourist from all over the world can book room for double occupancy, triple occupancy (Rs. 300 to Rs. 400) and dormitory through direct contact with Shimla Kalibari (Phone number is available in Google, Just Dial; you have to contact atleast 3 months before visit at Shimla for budget acvommodation). I have delighted to take various types of bengali food here with nominal cost (all types of thali is available under Rs. 100/-, may be mutton, fish or egg etc. Everyone can take veg. or non-veg. meal here). Outsider can also take food from Shimla Kalibari Restaurant. The Shimla city view is awesome from this place. The environment of this place is fantastic.
