Belilious Park — Attraction in Howrah

An artist’s impression of the 400-ft tower What was once an abandoned park with garbage dumps on its sides had been turned into Howrah’s biggest amusement park spread over 25 acres, complete with rides, water parks, mini-auditorium, lake and museum. Adding to this list will be the tallest tower in the state, a 400 ft structure that will provide a bird’s eye view of Howrah and Calcutta to those who will care to scale it.

Belilious Park inaugurated in 2005 had never taken off. There were few visitors and the Big Bazar that was accommodated within the park premises shut shop because of dwindling footfalls.

In a bid to revive the park’s fortunes, builder Ram Ratan Chowdhury is now building this tower that is taller than Calcutta’s monument and Delhi’s Qutub Minar. Called the Panchdeep Tower, after the construction company that will build it, Panchdeep Constructions Ltd, it will be 42 storied with five decks at intervals of 80 feet each. “At the decks, visitors can have a panoramic view of Howrah and also Calcutta,” said Chowdhury. At the top two decks, there will be high- powered telescopes that will help visitors to have a long range view.

The tower will have a 60 ft diameter base and an equally wide top with the middle being 20 feet in diameter. “The circumference is three times the diameter,” said Chowdhury. There will be two elevators in the tower that will take visitors to the decks. “There won’t be any stairs, only elevators to take visitors up and down the tower,” said Chowdhury.

Construction of the tower will begin on May 23 and it will take two years to be completed. The project is being implemented along with the Howrah Municipal Corporation (HMC), which is the owner of the park. “The Belilious Park was built as a PPP project and the tower will be a part of that project only,” said Chowdhury. “The design of the tower has been approved by the civil department of Indian Institute of Engineering, Science and Technology (IIEST). We have also got clearance from the aviation department for such a tall tower,” said Chowdhury.

২005 সালে আনুষ্ঠানিক উদ্বোধন করেন বেলিলিজ পার্ক কখনও কখনও বন্ধ হয়নি। বেশ কয়েকজন দর্শক এবং বড় বাজার ছিল যে পার্ক চত্বরে বন্ধ থাকার কারণে শপিংয়ের দোকান বন্ধ হয়ে গিয়েছিল।

Belilious Park, situated in Howrah, is the new talk of the town. The Panchwati Group recently renovated the park after they received the tender from Howrah Municipal Corporation. The park which once remained isolated because it lacked maintenance and is averagely crowded on the weekends by visitors today. Along with being an ideal place for adventure, Belilious Park is spacious enough, with an area of 26 acres, to host significant events or concerts.

The Belilious Park is located in Tikiapara, Howrah. You can reserve an Auto from Howrah Railway Station for the Park. It will take you about seven minutes to reach there.

The Park remains open every day except for Monday, from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Although on the occasion of any festival, the open hours might differ from the usual timing.

The entry ticket includes all the water rides inside the park and costs INR 150 per person on weekdays and INR 200 per person on weekends and public holidays. Children below the height of 4.6 feet get a concession on the entry ticket and are only charged INR 75. The tickets can only be purchased by visiting the Park as there is no option available to book them online.

The Park has many popular rides like Striking Car, Dragon Train, Toy Train, Titanic, Boating, River Cave and Hang Glider. You can enjoy the rides for an unlimited number of times once you have paid for the entry ticket. Unlike other Amusement Parks near Howrah, The Belilious Park is very less expensive considering the number of rides available.

The Water Park inside the Park was named Aquadeep in 2014 when it was inaugurated. With three pools and four to five different types of water slides, Aquadeep provides for all the fun one can have on a day out at an Amusement Park.

Inside The Belilious Park, there is also an Open Air Theatre, a science museum and an Art Gallery. One can not only have fun at the Park but also get to know about science and Bengali culture and artists.
