Glass painting and porcelain gallery displays artworks from 18th to 19th century belonging to Indian schools of art in Shekhawat, Ujjain, Tanjavur, Avadh, and Tamil Nadu, as well as works from China, France, Japan, and other countries. Miniature painting gallery comprises paintings from 15th to 19th century from Jaipur, Kishangarh, Kota, Nathdwara, Bikaner, Orissa, Bundi, Lucknow, Avadh, and Tibet. The textile and costumes gallery has royal costumes, canopies, and turbans displayed mainly of the Jaipur state. The manuscripts room/library holds thousands of manuscripts on palm leaves, birch bark and various kinds of paper. These manuscripts cover over 200 subjects and are written in 16 languages including Brahmi, Sharda, Tibetan, Arabic, Persian, Urdu, Tirhut, Bangla, Telugu, Gujarati, Marathi, Oriya, Gurumukhi, and Devanagri. Read moreSo I’ll first start off by saying that we were brought here by our tuk-tuk driver, and entered without really questioning what this museum was about, or what we were going to see (I know...we’re such pushovers). Maybe it was the lightning pace in which our mandatory guide (covered in admission) took us through the exhibits and how little, unabashedly, he cared about the job he was doing, but I surprisingly enjoyed this museum. The collection of ancient Indian artifacts (art, manuscripts, textiles and weapons) and condition of said artifacts was absolutely astounding. Sure, the INR 400 entrance fee for foreigners sounds a little steep, but considering we paid more for other sights in Jaipur and felt that we got less, this museum is a steal. If you want a refreshing, no frills alternative for your next museum experience, I can’t recommend this place enough. You won’t be disappointed...or maybe you will?
