Bhairon baba Temple, Katra, Jammu. Bhairon Temple sits at a distance of 3 km from the Bhawan or the holy cave of Mata Vaishno Devi in Katra. It is the next pilgrimage destination after Mata Vaishno Devi Cave Temple that the pilgrims visit. In fact, the sacred yatra to Mata Vaishno Devi is only considered complete when the devotees pay homage at Bhairon Mandir, thus, a large number of Hindu pilgrims visit this sacred temple.
The temple is situated at the adjacent hill of Trikuta at an elevation of 2017 m. A havan kund marks as an important attraction at Bhairon Temple, the ashes of which are considered holy.
๐๐ปMythology of Bhairon Temple: The legend has it, the severed head of Bhairon Nath tossed to the adjacent hill to Trikuta. While dying, Bhairon realized his mistakes and asked Mata Vaishno Devi for forgiveness. The goddess not only forgave him but also gave him the boon of being worshipped by the devotees who would come seeking her blessing at the Bhawan.
๐๐ปBhairav or Bhairavnath is a famous tantrik of Hindu Deity. Bhairavnath was a disciple of Gorakhnath, whose guru was the Matsyendranath. He was considered to have control over all tantrik siddhis and had grown arrogant of his power. He went after Vaishno Devi, considering her to be a little girl. It was only when mata Vaishno Devi took the form of Kali to behead him he realized her true form and asked for forgiveness. In his dying moments, Bhairav pleaded for forgiveness. The Goddess knew that Bhairav's main intention in attacking her was to achieve his salvation. She not only granted Bhairav liberation from the cycle of reincarnation, but also granted him a boon, whereby every devotee, in order to ensure completion of the pilgrimage of Vaishno Devi, shall also have to visit Bhairav Nath's temple near the Holy cave after having the darshan of the Goddess.

It is believed that when Mata killed Bhairon Nath, his head fell at this place while his body remained at the entrance of the holy cave.
Darshan inside Bhairon Temple is also in the rock form. Head with face of Bhairon Baba and Hanuman Ji is worshipped by the pilgrims.
The temple is situated at an altitude of 6,619 ft. There is also a Havan Kund at the temple, donโt forget to taste a pinch of Havan Raakh, which is considered divine. Beware of naughty Monkeys in the area which can snatch your belongings and prasad.
There is also a huge arena adjacent to Bhairon temple where pilgrims and tourists can view and take pictures of Trikuta mountains very closely and also see the Katra Valley. The upkeep of Bhairon Temple is undertaken by Mata Vaishnodevi Shrine board.
