Bhairon baba Temple, Katra, Jammu. Bhairon Temple sits at a distance of 3 km from the Bhawan or the holy cave of Mata Vaishno Devi in Katra. It is the next pilgrimage destination after Mata Vaishno Devi Cave Temple that the pilgrims visit. In fact, the sacred yatra to Mata Vaishno Devi is only considered complete when the devotees pay homage at Bhairon Mandir, thus, a large number of Hindu pilgrims visit this sacred temple.

The temple is situated at the adjacent hill of Trikuta at an elevation of 2017 m. A havan kund marks as an important attraction at Bhairon Temple, the ashes of which are considered holy.

๐Ÿ‘‰๐ŸปMythology of Bhairon Temple: The legend has it, the severed head of Bhairon Nath tossed to the adjacent hill to Trikuta. While dying, Bhairon realized his mistakes and asked Mata Vaishno Devi for forgiveness. The goddess not only forgave him but also gave him the boon of being worshipped by the devotees who would come seeking her blessing at the Bhawan.

๐Ÿ‘‰๐ŸปBhairav or Bhairavnath is a famous tantrik of Hindu Deity. Bhairavnath was a disciple of Gorakhnath, whose guru was the Matsyendranath. He was considered to have control over all tantrik siddhis and had grown arrogant of his power. He went after Vaishno Devi, considering her to be a little girl. It was only when mata Vaishno Devi took the form of Kali to behead him he realized her true form and asked for forgiveness. In his dying moments, Bhairav pleaded for forgiveness. The Goddess knew that Bhairav's main intention in attacking her was to achieve his salvation. She not only granted Bhairav liberation from the cycle of reincarnation, but also granted him a boon, whereby every devotee, in order to ensure completion of the pilgrimage of Vaishno Devi, shall also have to visit Bhairav Nath's temple near the Holy cave after having the darshan of the Goddess.

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿป How to Reach Bhairon Temple? A steep climb leads to this sacred shrine in Katra. However, the new ropeway has made this arduous journey easy for the pilgrims. Now, devotees can take a 5 minutes cable car ride between Mata Vaishno Devi Cave and...

Bhairon Temple is located in Bhairon Ghaati in the Trikuta Mountains at a distance of 1.5 kms from Mata Vaishno Devi Bhawan. Darshan to Bhairon is compulsory after Visiting the holy shrine of Vaishno Maa, It is believed that the journey to Mata Vaishno Devi is incomplete without the darshan in Bhairon Temple.

This temple involves steep climb uphill which can be undertaken by foot, ponies or palanquins (palkis or human driven carts). From quite sometime now, Ropeway or Cable Car is also operating between the Bhawan to Bhairon Temple, which takes about 3-5 minutes and the ticket for round journey takes mere 100 INR, which is worth the cost.

According to legends, Bhairon Nath was killed by Vaishnavi and while lying on death bed, bhairon nath seeked an apology, Mata gave her a boon of being the last link of the pilgrimage. It is believed that when Mata killed Bhairon Nath, his head fell at this place while his body remained at the entrance of the holy cave.

Darshan inside Bhairon Temple is also in the rock form. Head with face of Bhairon Baba and Hanuman Ji is worshipped by the pilgrims.

The temple is situated at an altitude of 6,619 ft. There is also a Havan Kund at the temple, donโ€™t forget to taste a pinch of Havan Raakh, which is considered divine. Beware of naughty Monkeys in the area which can snatch your belongings and prasad.

There is also a huge arena adjacent to Bhairon temple where pilgrims and tourists can view and take pictures of Trikuta mountains very closely and also see the Katra Valley. The upkeep of Bhairon Temple is undertaken by Mata Vaishnodevi Shrine board.

We were lucky to see sunshine in the morning when we started the climb, then fierce clouds covered the mountains, it started raining within no time and thereafter we got to see heavy snow covered the entire Trikuta mountains and Bhairon...

Jay Baba Bhairon, so today again on 1 August 2025 i blessed with Bhairon Baba after one year again .

The Bhairon Temple is located 3 km kilometers from the main Vaishno Devi shrine, atop a hill. It can be reached by trekking or through a ropeway.

Devotees believe that completing the pilgrimage to Vaishno Devi is not considered complete without visiting Bhairon Baba's temple. This temple is believed to be where the head of Bhairav Nath landed after being beheaded by Goddess Vaishno Devi.

According to legend, Bhairav Nath, a demon, pursued Vaishno Devi, who ultimately transformed into Kali Mata and beheaded him. His head fell at the site of the Bhairon Baba temple. Bhairav Nath, upon realizing his mistake, sought forgiveness and was granted a boon that his temple would be a part of the Vaishno Devi pilgrimage.

Bhairo Nath was the Tantrik from Gorakhnath's disciple and became arrogant after gaining all the Tantrik powers. When Bhairo Nath went to kill Vaishno Devi, thinking of her as a child, she took the form of Kali and killed Bhairo Nath.

The lord is said to safeguard His devotees from enemies and remove fear from their minds. He also helps His followers in getting rid of negative traits like lust, ego, anger and greed in their lives. It is interesting to note that Lord Bhairav is considered by his devotees to be beyond time and...

Jai Mata Dee, After visiting Vaishno Mandir, it is a must to visit, otherwise your journey is incomplete. It is a further 2km up the steep hill, with a winding path, at first it seem impossible to manage but as u walk, chant & pray your journey becomes easier & before u know it, u up to the top. But we had to rest as u go along the way too. Also as you see small children & elderly parents walking itโ€™s a motivation to complete your journey knowing you are still fit. But wow what an awesome scenery when u up there away from everything and such a feeling of fulfillment after completing your pray. We walked up all the way by foot even saw some people crawling up on their stomach, so much devotion. When u walk up the trikuta mountains u forget about everything, u become a simple person forget about all your luxuries & worries. This has been my First trip to Vaishno Devi Mata but I only completed my journey , as I did not know the first time I had to go up to Bhairav Baba, only found after my research.
