Calm and serene atmosphere. Ranchi is a small city presently well known as M S Dhoni's town. This town had another Dhoni few years back. Yogananda began his life's work with the founding, in 1917, of a “how-to-live” school for boys, where modern educational methods were combined with yoga training and instruction in spiritual ideals. This school was appreciated by Tagore and Gandhiji. In 1920 yogananda moved out for his world mission to US where concentrated his life's work and breathed his last in 1952. The mission has spread to several countries now. The Prime Minister of India released a stamp in the honour of the centenary celebration of Yogoda Satsang Society and Paramahansa Yogananda this year. Honourable President of India is supposed to visit the ashram on 15th to mark the occasion. It is interesting to note that there would be a picture of Jesus Christ at every altar of YSS. Yogananda has drawn several similarities to teachings of both the religion and focuses on spiritual attunement with God. Another interesting thing is that heads of yogananda's organisation have been women for last 60 years till Mrinalini Ma breathed her last this year. Any one who visits Ranchi should come here once. It so also in the official list of tourist map of the state. A dedicated group of Sannyasis have kept alive the work of great master.
