I took bus number 298M from Majestic and went to Chikkajala Fort. The front of the fort was demolished to build the expressway to the new airport. This is what remains now. The fort was built on a 3000 year old burial site. It's in a very bad shape. I don't know how it's surviving. There is a beautiful, ancient kalyani next to the fort. Kalyanis were built for rain water harvesting. And to replenish the water table. There are ancient carvings on the steps of the kalyani! This is what I wanted to see. The carvings are scattered all over. A Chakra. Monkeys playing. A scorpion. A turtle. A pattern with a face. A woman giving birth. There is erotic art. There is colour. Read moreIt is said to be a historic fort recognised by ASI. However, i couldn't see a single board nor the temple was open. The front of the stone walled complex made way to the service roads of the Bellary road that goes via airport. Thought it look like a fort and resembles more of a temple complex built with fort kind of walls. Pedalled to the place and locals found me amusing for clicking photos of the place. Probably it has no value except the temple that sits there. A kalyani is the centre of attraction and alongside has a pillared complex.
Wish we clear the place again and get people to study the place.
