This is a Kerela and Arabic themed restaurant (they do serve North indian dishes as well). Saw a lot of good reviews on Maps and thought to try it out. We wanted to like this restaurant, but it wasn't up to our expectations given the price point and reviews online.
The first visit: We took our seats on the ground floor and were a little hesitant to continue, but we took a chance anyway. There were plates with leftovers on some tables that were just there for 15 mins. The flies buzzing around weren't making us any more comfortable. The two wash basins are right under the staircase, and the door shouldn't be there. It's kind of icky to open cause of the food and water stuck on the handles. We ordered: Malabar Chicken biryani: 3/5 (tasted bland and the chicken was dry. Dish wasn't served hot) Hyderabadi Mutton biryani: 3.5/5 (was alright but didn't taste as good as what you'd get elsewhere. Was also not served hot) Both orders took a lot of time to receive. Overall impression, an average restaurant that's overpriced for what we get and lacks hygiene.
The second visit: We decided to give this place a second chance, assuming the first visit was just a bad day. The first floor is air conditioned and much better than the ground floor. The wash basin, despite being beside the staircase, still has the same problems. We ordered:
Peri Peri Chicken AlFaham Full: 3.5/5 (was spicy with good portion sizes. But tasted more like an Indian Tandoori dish than an Arab grilled one. The garlic paste was more mayonaise than actual garlic paste. The Khuboos was quite good, though. Eating this did leave our mouths burning for a while. Received the order on time.)
Hyderabadi Mutton biryani: 3.5/5 (was served hot this time but tasted the same. Received the order on time)
A Kerela chicken fry/gravy (I don't remember the actual name now 😅) and paratha: 4.5/5 (this part of the order took a lot of time to deliver but personally liked this. The paratha had that hand beaten texture, and the gravy was savory)
But again, we still had concerns with regards to the hygiene here (especially given the cost). We didn't go home feeling well either after this, so it's hard to recommend this to anyone who's traveling to or from the airport and wants a good place to stop by. We didn't even try the eatables like cutlets or shawarma at the entrance due to the same hygiene concerns. This restaurant has huge potential. Some infrastructure renovation, hygiene, and service management would make this a better place to visit.
(McDonald's and A2B Adyar Ananda Bhavan are good alternatives nearby. McDonald's obviously offers Non-veg and A2B being vegetarian. Both are very clean and...
Read moreIt's amazing restaurant. Here's all dishes are very Dilisious and very beautiful. All the staff members are very nice, I liked their behavior very much. They don't have any kind of ego or attitude. I liked the structure inside the restaurant very much. It is better than what it looks like from outside but after coming inside, it was a lot of fun. The way of working of all the staff here is very excellent which I liked very much. All the workers here appeared very clean and neat to me. The inside area was very clean and tidy. I had heard a lot about this restaurant but had never been there. People were talking a lot about this restaurant, but I don't believe that it will be so good. When we went and saw it, tell me, I lost my senses after seeing it. I never thought that this restaurant would be so good. This is a very nice restaurant. This restaurant is very well designed. Which enhances their beauty. This restaurant looks like heaven. Just like the name of this restaurant, it is designed in the same way. The view from the front of the restaurant is a little less good but the inside is different. Some people say that there is a lot of waiting in this restaurant. But I don't feel at all that these people make me wait. Yes, it happens that when there is more crowd, there might be a little waiting list, but whatever you say, it is very good. I say that if you want to eat anything good, you will have to wait a little, my dear. This resturent is so beautiful so elegant just looking like a wow just looking like a wow. I think you should definitely come once, you will enjoy it a lot. You will like it very much once you come and see it. Today...
Read moreI visited Itihaas for dinner on the occasion of Eid, looking forward to a special meal that matched the festive spirit of the day. The place was quite crowded, which I expected given the festival, but what caught me off guard was the rather underwhelming atmosphere. Despite having multiple ACs, only one was running, making the space feel warm and stuffy. Another odd detail—meals were served on steel plates instead of the ceramic or glassware, which felt out of place for a dine-in experience. With all that, I was still hopeful the food would make up for it.
We kicked things off with Drums of Heaven and Honey Chilli Chicken—surprisingly decent! Nothing groundbreaking, but they did the job. Solid 3/5 for flavor, portion, and no unpleasant surprises.
Then came the main course: Chapati with Mutton Laal Maas—and that’s where the evening took a sharp turn south. The chapatis were dry and stiff, bordering on inedible. As for the mutton? Let's just say if I had a rupee for every time I had to chew it, I could’ve ordered another round of starters. Tough, flavorless, and deeply disappointing. That might’ve been my first—and last—mutton adventure at this place.
If you're thinking of checking out Itihaas, I’d say stick to the starters. The ambiance is nice, but the main course? A hard pass—unless you’re in the mood for a...
