Read moreThis massive statue of Basaveshwara is very visible from most parts of town when you come in by bus. It's not far from the bus stand and behind Bheeshma lake. From far it looks like the statue is in the lake but it is in a park behind it. The statue is in a park which has an entrance ticket of Rs. 10/- At the base of the statue is a circular museum with the life story of Basaveshwara who was a very strong spiritual leader of people of North Karnataka. The life story is conveyed via a series of stills depicted by concrete sculptures and painted backgrounds (similar to comic books). The sculptures are very life like and well done. Really worth having a look even if you know little about Basavanna. The garden around looks good but you are not allowed on it. Photography is allowed inside. The park is open only upto around 6 pm. The lake is good place to hang out at sunset and...

I was there a bit earlier after visiting Saraswati Temple which is only of 10 mins of walking distance. The lady in charge seems punctual as she came at exact time. There is a small entry fee. The place is well maintained. The statue has a great view as it is situated by the side of a lake and surrounded by a park and lawn. There is a shrine and museum dedicated to Basaveswara. The ideal time to visit will be after 4.00 PM as the heat will settle and breeze will be there. The lake is open to boating which is really worth spending the evening. I had no time as I had to visit many other places so went there in the morning. The day was very bright but my energy was saved by cool wind and the nice weather...
