Sree Mahadeva Temple at Sasthamangalam is an ancient temple in the heart of the city. Location: On the way from Sasthamangalam to Peroorkkada. Approximately 500 m from Sasthamangalam junction. Timing: Palli unarthal (waking up the Lord) 04.30 Nada thurakkal (door of the sanctum sanctorum opens) 05.00. Temple closes at 11.00 AM Reopens in the evening at 5.00 PM and closes around 08.00 -08.15 PM Deities Lord Shiva (main deity) Lord Ganesh, Lord Dharma Sastha, Bhadrakali, Veerabhadra, Nagar Shrines of Bhadrakali, Veerabhadra and Nagar are situated on the other side of the road. There are ramps and steps to reach these shines. Next to the shrine one can see the Killi River. The Kadavu (ghat) for the Lord’s Arattu is situated there. The annual ritual of dipping the idol of the Lord by the priest takes place here. You can see a mini bamboo forest here, something quite unusual within the city. Parking Near the temple parking is available only for two or three cars. You should ideally park cars about 100 m away from the temple after the main arch, since the road is quite wide there. Temple is usually not very crowded except during festivals.

This Shiva temple is situated near Pipinmood, Shastamangalam, within Trivandrum city. In front of the temple lies a Sarppa Kavu (snake grove) and a river ( Killiar river.) Facilities for Balitharppanam(ബലി തർപ്പണം) (ritual offerings) are available, accommodating 3-4 people at a time. Parking space is limited to a maximum of 6 cars. Due to limited riverbank space, this location isn't ideal for Balitharppanam on Karkitaka vavu. Primarily, this place is utilized for Balitharppanam rituals in connection with death ceremonies. Generally, 'Balitharppanam'(ബലി തർപ്പണം) rituals are conducted by individuals with guidance from NSS Karayogams or other Hindu forums. Those performing Balitharppanam need to bring necessary items like flowers, darbha (sacred grass), etc. No suppliers are readily available on-site, and there are no shops nearby.
