Sankhumugham Devi Temple is an ancient and famous temple of Goddess Sri Durga in South Kerala. The Deity Sri Durga is facing to east.
As per myth, the temple was established by Lord Parasurama. Also as per history, this temple was owned by Koovakkara Potty of Ettarayogam, a powerfull religious and administrative advisory forum during Travencore dynasty.
Subdeities: Ganapathi, Chamundi devi, Nagaraja etc.
Pooja: During Morning, Noon time and Evening. Timings: Morning 04.30 to 11.00 Evening 05.00 to 08.00 Pooja on Tuesday, Friday and Pournami day are famous in Devi Temple. Pooja on Pournami day is special for getting good marriage alliances for the youth devotees.
Vazhipadu (Offerings): Different Archanas, Poojas Homams as per Devi temples of Travencore Devaswam board, however Swayavara pushparchana, Raktha pushparchana, Para Nirackal etc. are popular.
The temple is a medium sized temple with large compond area. Sreekovil is round in shape and flag mast is built in front.
Festivals: Ten days festival during month Meenam with Pallivetta on Bharani day. Karthika vilakku also is celebrated.
Location/Travel: At Sanghumugham beach of Thiruvananthapuram near to Domestic Airport. From Thiruvananthapuram city, we can travel via Westfort, Vallakkadavu, Vailyathura, Sanghumugham route or Palayam, Chackai, Sanghumugham route.
