Shangu denotes conch in english and this is related with this temples legendary beliefs and so the place around is known as shangu mugham. This temple reigns from the royal era and the deity goddess durga installed as facing east is believed as consecrated by parashurama in puranas. The deity bhagavathy amman can be seen in the sanctum sanctorum gracefully well placed giving us a smooth darshan felting a divine experience.
