Saint Angelo fort is in the Cannanore Cantonment area. It is fairly well preserved as a protected monument under the Archaeological Survey of India. St Angelo's fort is a most important historical monument and a popular tourist attraction of the Malabar region. Its on the coast of the Arabian Sea behind the District Government Hospital, Kannur about 2 kms from Kannur railway station. The fort was constructed in 1505 by the Portuguese later changed hands to the Dutch and to the Arakkal Raja in 1772. The British seized the fort in 1790 and held as their station till 1947. The fort is open for visitors from 8 in the morning to 6 in the evening throughout the year. There is parking space for vehicles and a fee of Rs.20 is charged as parking fee for cars. There is also a toll of Rs. 20 for cars to be paid for using the Cantonment road.

There are few benches inside the fort to sit and relax. Pay and use wash rooms are available inside the fort. There is also a mobile snack bar and ice-cream vendor inside.

A must visit spot while in Kannur.A very nice and quiet place. Very cleaned, well maintained, have parking and secure (I saw Police men are in duty inside). In general people in Kerala are very helpful by nature. A police officer told us about 36,000 canon balls they kept in a room and gave us direction to see. It has moderately maintained garden as well. Good place to hang out with friends and family. Great place to capture photos.Been to the Fort with my children and nephew. The kids thoroughly enjoyed their ️evening. The view of the Arabian Sea from the top is simply mind blowing, the olden era prison is something which attracts the people to this place. Also cannon balls and mainly the sight of the beach is amazing. The only problem that I noticed is that they could have more seats placed here so ppl can enjoy the breeze, also the people can take more care not to litter . They've placed so many trash bins but there is litter all over the place. Also there could be a nice joint for fast food so that People can enjoy a tea / juice maybe.
