Highly recommend place to visit, Tangassery Breakwater offers a unique, atmospheric glimpse into Kollam's maritime heritage rather than a typical manicured tourist attraction. This historic, functional harbor structure, built during colonial times, extends into the Arabian Sea, providing visitors with sweeping panoramic views of the bustling fishing harbor, incoming fishing boats laden with catch, the distant Kollam Lighthouse, and often spectacular sunsets. The raw, working ambiance is its core appeal – the sounds of waves crashing, fishermen mending nets, and seabirds circling create an authentic coastal experience. While facilities are minimal (expect basic seating and vendors selling simple snacks), the breakwater is a favored spot for locals and tourists seeking a peaceful stroll, photography opportunities (especially of harbor life and sunsets), and a sense of connection to Kollam's seafaring soul. Be prepared for potential dust, wind, and uneven surfaces; it's best suited for those who appreciate unvarnished, scenic, working waterfronts over polished...
Read moreOne of the most wonderful park in kollam. Don't miss the walk through the breakwater almost an hour and a half walk to and fro. The port and harbour view is really amazing from the breakwater. The mesmerizing sea view from the breakwater is almost like walking through the middle of arabian ocean enjoying the strong sea breeze. Evening time is the best, but you have to start early to walk upto the tip of breakwater and back before dawn. There are no street lights on breakwater. The park has got a very good parking space, a children's play area and one water shop. A elevated space to see and enjoy the sea, Port , and breakwater before entering the breakwater area. The area charges userfee per person and an additional parking fee for vehicles. You can also see the light house from the parking space. Its a huge area to explore. Your kids will love the area. Do carry snacks with you as you don't have one there. Its all in the beginning stage. But a lovely place to hang out with your family...
Read moreThe ambience is good. Nestled at the entrance of the Thangassery Breakwater System, the Park offers an enchanting view of the Sea, divided by a Bund known as ‘Pulimuttu.’ On one side, the waves crash against the Coast, displaying their raw power, while on the other side, the water remains calm and serene. This unique setting provides Visitors with a perfect spot to soak in the beauty of the Sea. DTPC Kollam Authorities should make arrangement to remove the trees and bushes on both the sides of Bund (Pulimuttu) and it is an obstacle on the concrete walkway. After Sunset, it is very dark on the Pulimuttu and it can be a threat to the ladies walking up to the endpoint of Pulimuttu. By providing Street lights and by installing CCTV's till the endpoint of the Bund, will increase the safety and security of...
