Harihareshwar is located on the North Bank of Savitri River which originates at Mahabaleshwar and merges with Arabian sea at Harihareshwar. Bankot Village and Victoria Fort are located on South Bank of this River. Savitri River is the Dividing line between Raigad and Ratnagiri districts. Raigad is on North Bank side and Ratnagiri is on South bankside. This temple complex comprises two adjacent temples. one of them is a Kalabhairav Temple that needs to be visited first and the other is the Harihareshwar temple dedicated to lord Shiva. It is customary to pay tribute to Kalabhairav , then to Lord Shiva, and again to Kalabhairav. The Main Deity of Harihareshwar temple was the ancestral deity of Peshwas, Prime Ministers of the great Maratha Empire. This temple is constructed in Hoysala Architecture and was built by Veera Narasimha II. Pradakshina Marg of this temple was built by Chandra Rao More. This temple was almost destroyed in the Fire and then renovated by Bajirao Peshwa in the year 1723. Inside the Sanctum of the temple, there are idols of Lord Shiva, Parvathi, Vishnu and Brahma. Pradakshina path goes around the temple, along the seashore. Pradakshina route will take you to the tip of the mountain and you will mesmerize with the views from peak and then it will take you to a linear passage between two craggy mountains has come to be known as Ganapati Gully and its draws maximum tourists attractions. It's called as Ganesh Gully, because Ganesh Idol is there at the end of this passage.
