1942, a love story; Parinda; Salaam Bombay; Khamoshi The Musical; Pyaar to Hona Hi Tha; Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam; Raju Chacha; Jodha Akbar; Mela; Mission Kashmir - all these movies have one thing in common. They all were shot in the iconic ND Studio of Karjat. A must visit for the movie buffs, ND studio was started in 2005 with a purpose to offer all the services and facilities related to filmmaking like storyboarding, editing rooms, props, technicians, lights, fabrication, lodging, catering, editing rooms and sound studios.

Be it the background of a palace or a sleepy village scene hints at Europe, or circa 16th century or Swiss Alps or English countryside, it can be all created at the ND Studios. From lakes to mountains to sets resembling Singapore, Mumbai, and many European locations, the studio offers access to all.

When on a visit to the ND Studio, one should take up the studio tour during which tourists will see sets, costumes, and props used in the films. One will learn about the technical side of creating one of the most successful film series of all time, with insight into the special effects and animatronics.

The studio runs an art school too - ND Art Studio, which gives industrial exposure to the budding artists. This film school offers well-equipped library cum media center and other state of the art facilities like an amphitheater, conference rooms, audio-visual rooms, sports etc. Filmmaking, Production Design, Direction, Cinematography, Script Writing, TV Journalism, Acting, Graphics, and Animation are some of the courses offered by the...

We had a bad experience at this place. We visited on 1st of Jan 2020 and the property was in complete mess. Multiple points that contributed to our bad experience..

No guides or volunteers available to show the place...Reason given to us - Because last nights new year party got over late so volunteers unavailable.

Unclean and filthy conditions.... Leftover Food was fallen everywhere from the new year party that happened on this property last night.....Reason given to us - Because last nights new year party got over late so cleaners unavailable.

No refreshments available at the property.... Khau galli was completely vacant.... Reason given.... Same as above ....Because last nights new year party got over late so food vendors unavailable.

Lack of proper ventilation at multiple sets... Example... The KBC set (Kaun Banega Crorepati) was as hot as an oven. We had to rush out immediately as the heat inside was unbearable. Same situation at the palace (used in Prem ratan dhan paayo) ....no ventilation.

Instead of offering a poor experience to its visitors i think management should had decided of not keeping the studio open for its visitors on 1st Jan and get the place cleared and cleaned.

Bottom line... ND film studio scored points below average.

One can visit this place if nothing else to do and just wants to kill time.

Rs 699 was a huge charge for the tickets in exchange of what...

Location - En route to Karjat from Navi Mumbai. Identification - Carved faces 24x bigger on either side of the entrance gate.

What to see- Bollywood based park for visitors Studio for filmmakers Old famous movie posters Replicas of various locations in Mumbai related to Bollywood Sets used for various movies / tv shows Posters Life size eternal characters Wall paintings Virtual reality games 90 min act/show

Facilities- Parking inside the studio Washrooms - fairly clean, but not in the vicinity of the entrance Food items: Kolhapuri Thali (veg and Non-Veg), sandwiches, Maggi, missal paav, vada paav, paav bhaaji, soft beverages, ice creams, basic pizzas etc Seating: Ample numbers at distinctive locations

Services- Electric Buggy - for senior citizens, children and groups Water refreshments points are available, but need to be increased

Where to improve: Provide an umbrella per person against refundable deposit of 100/-. It keeps up the tempo for visiting the studio Toilets can be a bit more better Don't permit huge groups to occupy important photo points. It doesn't display the operations in good light. Better vigilance to people around the studio once the afternoon show starts Quality of food needs big time improvement. Quality of the sets need to improve.

Experience- Good for a one time visit Quite clean place. Staff is friendly...

Great place to visit Movie and Tv serial sets. Films like Ready, Jodha Akbar, Prem Ratan, Panipat etc and many tv serials (Ashoka, KBC) have been shot here. Tour starts with a 15 min video clip and then there are guides at different places to tell you about the place. There is a whole section where a village set is created, then a set with Fort, Palace (which was used in Jodha Akbar). KBC studio is also present - there are posters on wall which are of old Hindi cinema and there is also a small tour section which explains the film making process and its different stages. You can venture on foot from one set to other and since it’s spread in acres there are vehicles also to take you from one place to next. There is also a live performance by Salman Khan duplicate with whom you can dance along. There is a section where a musician with guitar will follow you along and you can take the singing mic. Good places for colourful photographs, some modern art pieces are also on display on a street. Ticket cost Rs 1000 per person but we got a discount of 30% visiting in October. Free parking available. Decent food options available inside but you will have to pay not covered in ticket amount.

Nitin Desai is a popular Bollywood art/production designer and has extensively worked for decades in several movies. This is his film studio primarily opened to offer services for set construction and shooting of movies. With the advent of digital mediums, the requirement of sets have reduced and hence the business as well. So the studio is in bad condition. Opering it to the general public is a new avenue to make some money. But most sets are not in the best condition and also not maintained properly. The property is huge and one needs to walk long distances to reach from one set to another. There are free electric vehicles for transport. The entry fee of Rs 500/person just does not justify the worth of what you get to see inside. It is only making money by Bollywood aficionados who come from long distances to get some feel of the elusive Bollywood world. With the space that it has, a lot could have been done to make this place entertaining like Hollywood studios or our very own Ramoji Rao Studios in Hyderabad. Alas this is a lost opportunity!

Positive Points: Unique concept as India’s first Bollywood-themed park. Opportunity to see authentic movie sets, appealing to movie lovers. Large area with some impressive sets for photography. Guided tours available. Worth visiting once if you're in Karjat or a Bollywood enthusiast. Negative Points: Poor maintenance and dilapidated sets. Overpriced entry fee (₹500 for adults, ₹300 for kids and seniors) for the experience offered. Limited facilities for internal transportation or refreshments. Excessive walking under harsh weather conditions. Not all sets are visually appealing, and some are in a state of disrepair. Lack of stores or professional facilities within the park. Neutral/Constructive Feedback: Carry food, water, and a cap due to walking and heat. Potential improvements in maintenance could enhance visitor experience.
