Read moreThis is essentially a complex or rather maze of hundreds of shops in many lanes in the area called mangaldas market. Most shops are wholesalers and this is the best place to shop for most non-perishable items in bulk. Right from safety pins to sandals to purses to wigs to umbrellas to utensils to upholstery to clothes to stationery to cosmetics to toys to costume jewelry to crockery, you name it and you will get it here. You need to hunt for the shops that sell what you are looking for. Many shops sell only a few items. Most lanes are also specific product lanes so you have a lane that is lined with shops selling only stationery or another selling only toys so on and so forth. Ask where to go to buy an item. Shop owners are helpful. Roadside stalls sell items at retail and usually for less that what you would get elsewhere. But bargain hard. Bargain with everyone actually except the shops that clearly state they are wholesalers and have fixed price. If you bargain with them, they will shoo you out. This is a place, where if you have the time, hunt a little, know how to bargain, you can save yourself a LOT of money and I do mean a LOT. Keep in mind parking is an absolute nightmare. So either have someone come pick you up or be prepared to wait a very long time to get a taxi. Most radio taxis don't accept pick up rides from here. And if they do, they won't wait more than a minute for you. You do get "patiwalas", basically porters but keep an eye on them or they will disappear with your shopping. Keep an eye on your wallet and your purse. This is pickpocket zone. This is also an EXTREMELY crowded place. Not for the faint hearted. While you walk, watch your step. The roads are not in the best state. Sprained ankles are very common here. For tourists, this is an experience of a lifetime. If possible, come the first time to get a feel of the market and the second...
