White & Black – Absolute Combo In the world of colours everywhere, some masterminds come up with out of the box ideas which will leave you surprised. White Charcoal at Empressa Hotel is one of a kind in Mumbai City. Amazed by the menu curated by well-known chef Ajay Chopra by bringing out the best in Indian cuisines and flavours with a slight twist to it only a master chef can do it. Every dish here has some or the other fusion representing different regions of India. I must say there is much more to explore in our country. Want to experience some of it then do visit White Charcoal.
1 Torched Paneer Rasgulla Tikka – Big Bang!!! Who could have thought of representing our regular sweet rasgulla into something tangy & sweet? Here our regular rasgulla is not sweetened instead it is stuffed with dry fruits from inside and from outside it is marinated with coating given to paneer tikka. Best Part is when the cook comes up with a blower and gives medium flame to the rasgulla from top. Also they are laid on top of avocado sauce and topped up with papad.
2 Haleem Baklava – Brilliance!!! Consistency of the paste was out of the world!! Simply melts in your mouth bursting out the mix flavour of spices, meat, barley and wheat. It is placed on Round shape baklava. Ideally you will find baklava in the dessert section but here it is in the appetizers can you believe….Kudos!!! A must try.
3 Khandeshi Masala Pulled Chicken – Initial impression looked like a dessert but then the attendant came and deconstructed the dish leaving it in a position as if a minor earthquake shook the small building. Taste wise it was spicy and tangy. Chicken was properly cooked and went well with biscuit bhakri.
4 Awadi Gosht Biryani – Ummmm Biryani is BAE!!!! After a long time had lamb biryani. Long grain rice cooked in ghee along with succulent pieces of cooked lamb with dough covered on top. Burp!!! Oopps so full after relishing it raita.
5 Chocolate Ghewar – Here’s another fusion…..traditional Rajasthan ghevar topped with chocolate ganache placed along with orange mascarpone sauce. With all three in spoon once in your mouth tons of sweetooth starts hustling here and there.
Drink:
1 Pearl of the Orient – So it is a gin based drink with concoction of litchi, gin, rose - coconut foam and garnished with kesar. Each sip seems to be sweet at the start but with time passing by you kind of feel tipsy…. Well done Mixologist.
2 Strawberry Sunset – Well it’s a mocktails with mix of strawberry, orange & peach. Refreshing and soothing
Ambience – Proper fine dine experience is what you will experience at White Charcoal. Recommend to visit this place with your family/ bae for a memorable evening. Entire set up is so soothing calm to your eyes as you enter inside. All the tables are well presented with cutlery and wine glass adding glory to it. They have a private dining section for a group of people and diagonally opposite to it is the family section which has comfy sofas. Music playing in the background is also soothing and peaceful.
Service – As we sat down they came up with glass having spiced water and dry ice. Once the spiced water was poured inside the glass having dry ice all we could see is smoke arising out which was essentially to make the atmosphere refreshing. Mind blowing concept. Thereafter we were given amuse bouche (complimentary appetizer) which was hung curd to cleanse our tongue and palate so that we could enjoy the actual taste of food. At the end they came up with a closed rectangular box out of which smoke was trying to escape and once opened in front of us it was heaven with a bowl containing paan shots/sorbet looked like emerald. Just gulp it and your dinner is complete. All this was possible because of our attendants Mr. Sunil & Nikhil. Thank you for such a wonderful evening. A big thank you to Chef Rajendra for explaining us the concept behind white charcoal.
