A Step Back in Time: A Review of Gobindgarh Fort, Amritsar Gobindgarh Fort, a majestic sentinel in the heart of Amritsar, offers a unique experience that blends historical immersion with family-friendly entertainment. While not without its quirks, the fort provides a fascinating glimpse into Punjab's martial heritage and the life of Maharaja Ranjit Singh, the "Lion of Punjab." A Historical Journey Walking through the imposing gates of Gobindgarh Fort is like stepping back in time. The architecture, a blend of Mughal and Sikh styles, whispers tales of battles fought and empires built. The fort houses a museum showcasing a rich collection of weaponry, from ornately decorated swords and shields to ancient cannons. Interactive displays bring history to life, allowing visitors to experience the sights and sounds of warfare in a bygone era. A particular highlight is the Shaheed Gallery, dedicated to the sacrifices made by Sikh martyrs. The somber atmosphere here is a stark contrast to the vibrant exhibits elsewhere, reminding visitors of the struggles that shaped Punjab's identity. Lights, Camera, History! Gobindgarh Fort isn't just about static exhibits. The 7D show, a multimedia experience, takes viewers on a thrilling journey through the life and times of Maharaja Ranjit Singh. Prepare for jolts, sprays of water, and a touch of wind as the 3D visuals come alive. For an even more immersive experience, don't miss the Sound and Light Show held in the evenings. The fort's ramparts are transformed into a canvas of light and sound, narrating the fort's story with dramatic flair. A Fun Family Outing Gobindgarh Fort caters not only to history buffs but also to families with children. The Wax Museum provides a life-size window into Punjabi culture, showcasing figures of famous personalities and depicting scenes from everyday life. A Horse Show (subject to availability) and a Gatka demonstration (a traditional Sikh martial art form) add a touch of excitement, keeping younger visitors engaged. For a break, grab a bite at the on-site cafeteria. While the food options might be limited, they offer a decent selection of local Punjabi fare. Points to Consider While Gobindgarh Fort offers a lot, there are a few things to keep in mind before your visit. Some areas might be under renovation, and some of the audio-visual shows, like the 7D experience, have received mixed reviews regarding their quality. Ticket prices can be a point of contention for some visitors. Consider opting for combo packages that include entry to the shows for a more complete experience. The evenings, with the light and sound show, offer a unique atmosphere, but be prepared for larger crowds. If you prefer a quieter experience, consider a daytime visit. A Final Verdict Gobindgarh Fort is a worthwhile addition to your Amritsar itinerary, especially if you're traveling with family. It provides a good balance of historical learning and interactive entertainment. While some aspects might need improvement, the fort's historical significance and commitment to showcasing Punjabi culture make it a place worth exploring.

What a day we had. After The Golden Temple the next best thing to visit in Amritsar. Never miss it. Its too good. A complete package. Gobindgarh Fort is a historic military fort located in the center of the city of Amritsar in Punjab. The Fort till recently occupied by indian army was opened to public from 10 February 2017. Today the fort is being developed as a museum and theme park, as a repository of Punjab’s history. Numerous attractions have been added to make Qila Gobindgarh a live museum along with exhibitions of Sikh martial history as well as the treasury of Maharaja Ranjit Singh. Sher e Punjab - A glorious history from the past depicted through the means of technology, to entice, enlighten, educate, enthrall and inspire. A 7D show based on the life of Maharaja Ranjit Singh that transports you back to the 19th century in an immersive way leaving you enchanted and is aptly called Sher e Punjab. Toshakhana . Coin museum - The Toshakhana, which once stored the coveted Kohinoor diamond, is now a coin museum for old and rare coins including a replica of the Kohinoor as it was worn by the Maharaja. The circular structure of the roof that was made by the use of the original nanakshahi brick is intact till date and quite awe inspiring. The Bungalow – Ancient Warfare museum - The grand building of the Anglo Sikh Bungalow has now been converted to an Ancient Warfare museum and today has several replicas of instruments and attires of warfare. It has many real, lifelike figurines that are so realistic they seem they would come alive if touched. Spirit of Punjab - A stage that keeps the fort alive all day long with live performances of bhangra, gatka, gidda, comedy, games, dholi etc. Several prizes are here to be won each day. Ambarsari Zaika - People here engage themselves in the various food shops and stalls that offer the choicest of Amritsari and Punjabi cuisine along with some other eatery options as well. Haat Bazaar - You can feast your eyes as you roam the well located Haat Bazaar that offers fares right from phulkaris, juttis, shawls, antiques etc. for you to purchase from. In partnership with Project Virasat, handmade brass and copper products made by the Thatheras of Jandiala Guru are also made available here. Whispering Walls - Kanda Boldiyan Ne or Whispering Walls is a show using state of the art projection mapping technologies and laser lights. A show of this quality has never before been seen pan India and we can certainly state that it will surely take your breath away. This show is held every evening post sunset. There is a Punjabi as well as an English show each day. The washrooms were clean & well maintained. The restaurant Ambarsari Zaika served authentic punjabi cuisine, but one had to wait a long for it to be served. The 7D show on Ranjit Singh should not be missed.. One thing I don't understand, when one can click pics from Mobile cameras inside, why aren't DSLR cameras allowed inside. Had to deposit it at the gates.

Par excellence heritage place to visit in Amritsar. It's like gem of Holy city Amritsar. Gobindgarh Fort, as the name suggests it lets you rekindle the era of King Ranjit Singh time. This fort played pivotal role in that time when he used to visit Amritsar from Lahore. It was used to make strategic plans in Darbar Hall which located in the fort and to keep arsenal. However, the area of the fort gives you feel of that old time. Punjab tourism have done wonderful job to rejuvenate this place. Here, one will witness the precious architecture of fort which was used by King Ranjit Singh and various canons which were used to guard the fort. There is 7-D movie has been playing in the theatre which depicts the tale of King which is just awesome. There you will feel the story by automatic chairs who reponds with the scene which is being played in the screen. Fabulous place to take photos with scenic views. 3-4 museums are also available in the premises of fort which you won't want to miss ever. Lights and sound show takes place at 07:00 p.m everyday and folk show is also showcased in which one can witness cultural heritage of Punjab. On special festivals, they offer lot of fun filled activities to visitors. They have opened the phase one of project and another phase is still to open which will offer alot more to explore for visitors. Ticket price could vary as per requirement. Fort is open till 8 p.m. but some museums situated in the fort closes at 05:00 p.m. Parking is situated accross the main road.

I had visited this place last Monday Initially got a big jhatka hearing ticket price But then felt it’s justified taking the price This fort recently in 2018 opened for tourists initially was under Indian Army If you are planning to visit this fort you must keep 3-4 hrs minimum in hand to visit the place Else you will feel you have wasted a lot money Ticket price is 600 inr per person for indians This price is included several activities shows and lunch (as i had visited during lunch time) Ticket included 7d show on punjab kesri ranjit singh, bhangra performance (generally happens outside but which day i had visited due to bad weather performance happened indoor), some sports activities, camel ride etc. Now come to negative points the workers are there not professional, we had reached at 11am they were not prepared to welcome visitors Their body language was in rainy day who visits this much early morning So we were confused initially where will go and what will do Even for initial show had waited for long But overall its a good tourist attraction but need more professionalism You can visited after 12 pm that their worker join the work and you don’t have to wait long for anything
