Posting a detailed unbiased review for those with logical , non-judgmental mindset- who truly wants to visit to explore what this place has to offer with an open mind!
Booking stay - Easy Booking system- after you have figured out your travel i.e Train vs Flight ✈️ etc , to get to Coimbatore- for Indian residents visit cottage.isha.in . Well crafted website which allows you to see through different options to choose from. Alayam and Nadi Delux are the best among all. This recommendation is keeping in mind quality of rooms offered and central location to the dining hall and other places (Dhayanalingam, Linga Bhairavi Temple, Teerthkundas etc). They provide Cleaning service every day during your stay. Note- they require you to deposit the keys while stepping out, they have their reasons since people misplace the key card and it’s quite expensive to replace . However whether to blindly trust the staff is up to you. This staff is a hired one from locals , they aren’t volunteers who are deep into practice or anything like that. Some of them didn’t even know basic stuff like “where is Bhiksha hall (i.e free dining hall) ?” . So be lil careful with your valuables in the room especially if you are stepping out leaving it all behind. Now good things is- they provide locker system , so be sure to ask for it at your reception.
Reaching Aashram - They do provide taxi service which while convenient is expensive compared to Uber (you will get link to submit the form , in your confirmation email). We found Uber in 900-1100 INR range while they charge flat 1400/- INR . Since we were visiting for the first time we weren’t sure and filling form with flight details seemed quite convenient and safe. Warm nice gentleman called before we got on flight to let us know he will be there to pick up. He called after we landed to let us know he is outside waiting. We got his + vehicle details in both email and text message- so yes quite convenient but it’s Atleast 400/- INR expensive is what I can tell from personal experience. On our we booked uber for 900/- INR :) Be sure to choose “Isha Welcome Point” as a location.
Inside the aashram - would you expect warm , kind , friendly people in such “divine” , “spiritual place” or atleast what they claim it to be? Well- be ready to get disappointed. Like many many many reviews here already said - Staff is beyond rude ! Either they don’t get paid well or they just HATE their jobs. With One of the most saddest looking faces and condescending tone whey will be sure to ruin your experience. While language barrier isn’t much of an issue their over all attitude is a big one. Volunteers on the other hand are no different - one aspect could be them being deep in their “sadhana” or whatever but that’s no excuse for “not willing to help” ! What’s the point for “service “ then? Warm smile - that’s where it needs to start- and boy is that lacking in this place!!
Point here is - DONT expect help since there aint any :) do your own research and own homework to make most out of your time here. I am attaching several resources we gathered during our stay here. Hope that helps!
Understand that 112 feet Aadi Yogi, Holy Bathing Pool aka Teerthkundas [Chandrakund (women) + Suryakunda (men)], Nandi Statue, Linga Bhairavi Temple and Dhyanalingam - these all are open to public i.e outside Aashram Premises! + two eateries / cafes, Isha Life store etc
Inside Aashram = stay cottages, Goshala , Health solution center aka Spa , Bheeksha hall (free dining hall) department store, few practice halls etc
Yellow bi- cycles are free of cost for folks like you and me to use :)
I am also dropping picture of their daily schedule- see what interests so you could explore. One thing I loved about this place- they follow time to the second and that’s how it should be. So be sure not to be late- doors will be closed at sharp time!
FOOD - As I mentioned above, there are two cafes in the premises (outside stay area) and one Bheeksha Hall i.e free meal included with your stay. It’s satvik...
Read moreIsha Foundation is 35 kms from Coimbatore city . There are cabs by Ola or Uber besides city buses . We stayed there in Nadhi AC cottages for one day charged @ 2520 inclusive of taxes per day for 2 guests .Rooms are basic with small 4x7bathroom but clean. One thing that lacked in the AC room was blankets . The only white bed-sheet provided was not enough . I was uncomfortable in my sleep . Blankets are a must in a Airconditioned room . They are mentioned as cottages but are rooms . No Almirah to hang your clothes . No hangers or hooks inside the bathroom for change over clothes . No toiletries . The overhead shower did spill the water everywhere except on the body because it was choked with calcium present in water and throwing water thru few pores on walls all around . I would rate the rooms , NOT COTTAGES as 3.5 star only . Maybe that’s the Isha definition for people coming for meditation or yoga. They do have non AC rooms @990/ - + taxes per 2 guests sharing the room . Some more facilities need to be added like Almirah & blankets . Linen was clean with no adverse smells. It’s the process I would like to place my comments on . Immediately on reaching the place one has to go to checkin counter with your e pass that was sent to your mail by Isha. The counter person would scan it and place wristbands ( waterproof ) announcing your cottage , on your wrist. This one must keep safe till exit . The Nadhi( नदी) rooms are nearest to all the other facilities 5 minutes walk only . After the wristbands one goes to May I help you counter where one is told about how to go around and take pictures of information like map of facilities , Bhiksha hall timings of Brunch , Dinner etc. ( for some strange reason I personally didn’t like the name Bhiksha because I had paid for it , Dhayanlinga, meditation & Yoga facilities , buggy( free service for movement that runs at half an hour intervals , and the Major attraction of Adiyogi statue towering 112 feet. . is a massive “Dhayanlinga” which is one of the attractions . One can go there without mobiles and sit for around 10 minutes in ध्यान मुद्रा । . Inside the premises even though the passages laid out with stone tiles are very hot in April yet most of the residents were walking barefoot . No vehicles except bicycles. We partake our dinner in the Bhiksha hall where most were eating sitting on mats on the floor . For elderly there were tables and chairs . Food was mostly rice in 2to 3 forms . There were 4 items, one vegetable , two rice dishes and Dal. One has to pick a steel plate and wash it after finishing . Volunteers were serving and cleaning . One can have that kind of food for a day or two. Maybe those coming for spiritual purposes find the food appropriate . However if one doesn’t eat in Bhikshashala, there are two restaurants where one can eat on payments . They serve few dishes like , idly, Vada , Doda , juices , set meals BUT FOR SOME STRANGE REASON NONE INSIDE THE CAMPUS ACCEPTED UPI PAYMENTS . This for me was not acceptable as UPI payment interface is a hallmark of India which many other countries are replicating as it eliminates the need to keep cash with you . Strangely there is no ATM service inside the campus . Being Sunday the Adiyogi campus was crowded and very noisy . The institution runs a laser show everyday @19:00 hours IST. I don’t think this is available LIVE online like many others like Live from Vrindavan, Kashi etc. Adiyogi statue is massive and bearing a calm innocence . Photography for some strange reason was not permitted inside the campus . So there no photos to subsume my submissions. Though I have few from Adiyogi campus . One of us aged 69 was having knees arthritis and so she faced the brunt of walking , the most . The bullock kart from Adiyogi back to residential area was free for all on payment of ticket . Being Sunday the local crowd had also thronged and we elders could not push our way through to the ticket counters as som 7-8000 crowd was returning home after...
Read moreThe Isha Center in Coimbatore boasts a serene and majestic temple premises, but everything else about the experience was abysmal. The staff's attitude was appalling, with little to no regard for basic hospitality. The facilities outside the temple are shockingly mismanaged—overcrowded, unhygienic, and utterly chaotic. The accommodations were substandard, with poorly maintained rooms that felt more like neglected dormitories. To make matters worse, exorbitant charges for basic amenities added insult to injury. It’s baffling how such a place, claiming to offer peace and spirituality, can get away with such shoddy services. Truly a case of misplaced priorities, where everything apart from the temple fails miserably.
The experience at Isha Yoga Center in Coimbatore was highly disappointing. We had booked a cottage at Shivapadam 4 for three people after confirming over a call that three could stay in the room without any additional charges. However, upon arrival, the staff made an abrupt U-turn, insisting we pay extra for the third person. This sudden change in policy was not only unprofessional but also caused unnecessary stress. To make matters worse, we were made to wait for over half an hour without any clear communication or resolution. Such mismanagement and lack of accountability are unacceptable for a place of this stature. I expected better organization and transparency from a reputed center like Isha.
The Isha Yoga Center in Coimbatore is shockingly mismanaged when it comes to transportation within the premises. Despite claiming on their website that transportation is available every 20 minutes, the reality is far from it. We were left waiting under the scorching sun for over half an hour, only to see vehicles pass by without stopping. To make matters worse, when a vehicle did show up, the staff bluntly refused to pick us up, claiming they weren’t heading in our direction. This apathetic and inconsiderate attitude left us stranded, struggling with senior parents in unbearable heat.
For a center that promotes spirituality and well-being, this lack of basic courtesy and proper organization is unacceptable. The disregard for visitors' comfort and needs reflects extremely poor service. Visiting here was a deeply disappointing and frustrating experience, and I would strongly advise others to reconsider before planning a visit. Such carelessness and arrogance are a disgrace to the center's claimed values.
The Isha Center in Coimbatore, while a serene and spiritually enriching place, fails to meet the basic food needs of its visitors. The food options provided are exorbitantly priced, making them completely unaffordable for the average person. For a place that sees a large number of visitors daily, this lack of accessible, reasonably priced food is unacceptable.
The few hotels available within are no better. They constantly argue about unavailability of items, even when the dishes are clearly present on their menu or visibly accessible. This dismissive attitude towards visitors' basic needs reflects poorly on the overall experience. Visitors are left frustrated, hungry, and often with no feasible options. The management should urgently address this issue to ensure that such a world-renowned center upholds its reputation for hospitality and inclusivity.
The Isha Center in Coimbatore is one of the most disappointing places I’ve ever visited. If you don’t have enough money, prepare to feel neglected and unwelcomed. The management is chaotic and indifferent, showing no concern for visitors who aren’t financially well-off. Facilities and services are overpriced, making the entire experience feel like a commercial trap rather than a spiritual retreat. The lack of basic courtesy and organization reflects poorly on their so-called ethos. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone—if zero stars were an option, that’s exactly what it deserves. Save your time, money, and peace of mind by avoiding this...
