A very nice little place to visit when you are around the south of Yogyakarta. The place is very easy to go to just by the help of Google Maps. You will be greeted by a security that will show you where to park. Later also informed you about the places you can explore, the museum, the showroom & the cafe. Buy the ticket of the museum in the showroom, 10k per person only. The showroom is where you can see all of Monggo's product, not only the compound chocolate bars but also the pralines, biscuits & cookies.. They have special boxes as well for gifts & souvenirs, really pretty for those looking for bringing a piece of Indonesian taste home.
The museum is very well curated. They have the history of cacao, chocolate drink then chocolate as food up to their own production in the factory. The information is clear and the visual is quite excellent! They have photographs, paintings, dollhouse-like diorama (tho reminds me a bit like a crime scene diorama, 😅), posters of past advertisings from many brands, chocolate packaging & tin boxes from vintage to modern ones (tho these packaging and tin boxes stored in a big glass showcase showed that they rarely cleaned & arranged since some are just ignorantly put & some are collapsing), big statues, and even comics. Unfortunately, they didn't offer any guide, so we don't know whether we can go to the factory or not since the ticket says it's for museum & factory but they let us wander in the museum alone & didn't offer or ask whether we wanted to visit the factory or not. Or maybe because it's Covid & the factory is off limit (but they should lock the door with sign that says it was the way to the factory) Nevertheless, still enjoy the museum.
The cafe is quite small but they have many international cuisine & gelato. The gelato is very yummy, better even from famous gelato places uptown. They're not overly sweet and the tastes speak for the name! They serve chocolate cakes & pastry as well. But, the price for the food & desserts are on the pricy side, really meant for tourists from the big cities & international tourists - price is not meant for us mere locals from the suburbs.
Came here near sunset & it's not crowded! Plus, they have super clean toilet & small praying room for Muslims as well. Limited parking space for big groups tho. Call in advance if you plan to come here in more than...
Read moreWent there and choose the full experience package. It was so fun and great! We got Mr.reza as our tour guide and he makes the tour even more fun and not boring. The tour takes aout 60 minute long. And it starts with a collage room full of the picture about many kinds of chocolate brand. To my suprise chocolate monggo owner is from belgia. I thought the owner is indonesian because of the chocolate name 'monggo'. In this room the guide will tell us abous the history of chocolate itself and how it become one of the most yummiest snack now. Then, we got to see the cacao itself, and even taste it firsthand. And to be honest, i was shocked that it taste like mangosteen. After that, we went to chocolate monggo factory to see how it produced and packaged. For those who have sensitive nose, the first area will make you overwhelmed with the real cacao smells. We can see from behind the glass, how the staff make chocolate monggo, we can even say hi. The guide will take us to taste 100% dark choco, and as the tour goes the percentage will go down till we taste the milk choco that popular especially among kids. The last part of the tour might be the most fun part (at least according to my son) because we will mold our own chocolate with fillings. We can also take it home as a souvenir. After the tour we can enjoy some refreshments at the cafe. It serves chocolate drinks, gelato bar, cookies, cakes and also we can buy the famous chocolate monggo and theres a tons of flavour. I think if you're happens to be in yogyakarta, this experience should be on your list when you're strolling...
Read moreAn extraordinary place that combines the enjoyment of various foods and beverages made from and tasted chocolate and the sharing of knowledge and dedication about the world of chocolate by a Belgian chocolate devotee and aficionado in Yogyakarta. The place is clean and the staff is friendly. Any food and drink that is here tastes really great. Absolutely amazing...!
His chocolate museum really shares his knowledge and passion about chocolate. Every step we take and what we see and read in this place enlightens and increases our knowledge about chocolate. Thanks
Entering the cool, clean and cozy shop, we get, not only various products made of chocolate, but also souvenirs and other handmade products. The price is not cheap, if you expect something similar from ordinary shops in Malioboro street. But for us, it is natural and fair, because it tastes really good and his creativity and innovation in chocolate products deserves appreciation.
We all tasted various food and drink menus at the restaurant/cafe located next to the shop. The ice creams are delicious. So is the dark chocolate drink. It's an amazing experience to be able to enjoy drinks 86% and 100% dark chocolate.
We haven't had time to visit the garden and the chocolate factory yet, because the COVID-19 pandemic is still going on. One day I want to bring my family here to see more about chocolate and taste more of their...
