Lava Tour Merapi Jogja — Attraction in Cangkringan

We opted for the Sunrise Medium package and it was hands down THE BEST experience ever. Our guide, Sigit, was so amazing and patient with us! Literally so chill and yet so hardworking. I could not be anymore impressed, he truly showed so much passion for what he does. Super knowledgeable about the volcano and the town, and the stories too! Most importantly, he was also an amazing photographer who took so many beautiful shots for us (and recommended the best angles and locations while at it). He was super fun, just simply delightful and deserving of the highest praise. Made sure we gave him a handsome tip too because he deserved it.

During the entire session we were also rewarded with the sight of a small streak of lava flowing out of Merapi. That was cool and apparently quite rare to see! The bunker part was eerie but super interesting, and of course so was the museum with all the artefacts on display. If you do opt for their packages, the Jeep water splashing activity is not to be missed! A lot of adrenaline action on that one - even my 52 year old mom was super stoked. First timer in this Lava Tour thing, apparently it was super fun for us adults and kiddos too. The road was bumpy all the way but that is what makes it fun!! They provide 3 types of tour that you can choose from: Short trip : 60 mins ride n sight seeing Medium trip: 90mins ride n sight seeing Long trip : 120 mins ride n sight seeing

So, the type of the ride that you choose will also effect the places that you can visit. For the water ride in the jeep, you can tell the driver whether you want to get wet or stay dry. Oh one thing with this tour, the show must go on no matter what the weather is, we were almost done with the trip when suddenly it rained so hard. Luckily our jeep has a tarp cover so we didn’t get wet so badly

Pickup time for the sunrise tour is 3:30 am, from your hotel in Yogyakarta. The transfer to the Jeep Tour base Camp takes approximately 30 – 40 minutes. Once you arrive there, you’ll meet your driver/guide for the outing and be heading to the sunrise viewpoint by about 05:00 am. Note: There’s three options for a jeep tour: Short, Medium, and Long Tours. TBH, if you look at a price list there’s not much difference between the three tours in terms of the number of sightseeing stops. The best attractions on the tour are the SUNRISE VIEWPOINT, THE KALIADEM BUNKER, THE ALIEN STONE, and the MUSEUM. The price differential is mainly about the length of the tour. The long tour, although the most expensive, gives you more time to see all the main attractions without feeling rushed.
