If you come here don't take the boat ride. Opt for a kayak if you can. We came across several of the boats and could literally hear people complaining that it was too expensive for what you get. The kayak gives you the freedom just to explore on your own. We negotiated one for 115000IDR which we could have probably gotten down further (he originally quoted 150k). In the narrow parts of the mangrove forest which is also visited by the tourist boats we saw plenty of tiny crabs, a snake and heard some birds. One of the boat drivers told us to turn around at some point because of the "crocodiles and mosquitos". We later spoke to someone else about the "crocodiles" and he said " there are crocodiles but they look like huge lizards". I am pretty sure that they mean the monitor lizards that live here. We saw one of them. There were a few mosquitos around but nowhere near as many as I had expected. Once we had explored all the different channels we went back to the main stream and went upriver. The tourist boats don't seem to go here. We saw a monitor lizard, some sort of waterfowl (similar to a coot), and a kingfisher. We probably would have seen more if we had spent more time here. Read moreIt’s a nice place to visit, we drove to the end of the road (lots of people yell at you to stop for free parking but there is free parking everywhere for each tour venue) we went to one of the ones at the end, since it’s off season we got a kayak for 2 people for 1 hour for 100k, I think it’s usually 150/200, there is also a boat and paddle board option as well but there are about 100/150k per person.

I think it’s a nice spot to visit and nice to mix it up from...
