Im sad to give such a poor review because the butterfly section was beautiful. I came to this butterfly park expecting a peaceful and nature-focused experience, which the butterfly section was. However, what I didn’t expect was animals kept in enclosures, most notably, two otters kept in what I believe is an unethical and inadequate habitat.
Their enclosure was small, barren, and dark water hole with no visible enrichment, natural features, or stimulation, it looked more like a concrete holding tank than a habitat. There were no plants, no grass, and no variation in the environment. And the two otters were displaying songs of boredom and distress.
Otters are intelligent, social animals that need complex, enriched environments to thrive. This setup did not come close to meeting these basic welfare standards. I was not expecting to see any animals in captivity at a butterfly park, let alone in conditions like this.
I urge the management to reevaluate the inclusion of animals like otters, and consult with ethical wildlife experts about how to improve, or ideally end, the practice of keeping animals in unsuitable environments for the sake of display.
Until meaningful changes are made, I cannot recommend this attraction to anyone who cares about...
Read moreWhilst the butterfly part of this park is cool, beautiful and educational the rest of the “sanctuary “ is very disturbing and raises a concern for animal cruelty which made this an uncomfortable experience. I can understand why this is a great spot for families as there is a water park and a large restaurant but there is nowhere that explains that they also have other tiny animals in tiny boxes and cages without space or areas for them to hide. There are also chickens in cages small Enough for them to take two steps, boxes of insects that all Look dead with nowhere for them to hide/ drink water. Hamsters that looked dead and dehydrated and literally nothing but sand with the sun hitting the box as well as other small Mammals. 2 baby sugar gliders in a cage where they cannot fly and also a cage with a big red lizard with 4 turtles that had no place to be there there and dirty shallow water that they could barely cover their feet
This place is Not a sanctuary and I wish I had known this before paying the steep 100,000 IDR( $10AUD ) to enter.
I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone who visits Bali. In fact, I will Tell people to absolutely NOT visit and...
Read moreWe made a short stop at Kemenuh Butterfly Park during our trip, and I’m really glad we did.
Although the visit wasn’t very long, it turned out to be one of the highlights for our kids. They were fascinated by the butterflies flying freely around the enclosure and enjoyed spotting different colors and sizes up close.
We ended up taking a lot of pictures — it’s a very photogenic place, and you can get quite a few lovely shots with butterflies resting on your hand or shoulder if you're patient.
One of the unexpected positives was how the visit helped reduce some of the fear of insects that my kids had before. Seeing butterflies in such a calm and natural environment made them more curious than scared, and they walked away with more appreciation for nature.
The park is clean, well-maintained, and peaceful — a nice break from the busier tourist spots.
If you’re in or around Ubud, I’d say it’s definitely worth adding to your itinerary, especially if you’re traveling with children.
It’s not a place you’d plan your day around, but it’s a lovely, low-key stop that offers something memorable in...
