Vihara Padumuttara — Attraction in Tangerang

The most prominent temple/vihara in Pasar Lama Tangerang. Located within the famous local market, surrounded with lots of foods / eating places, also residential areas.

This place has two main areas. The Hok Tek Ceng Sin (Klenteng) area at the front, which is of Khong Hu Cu and Mak Kwan Im beliefs, and the Theravadan area at the back.

The Hok Tek Ceng Sin area has the main hall which hosted the Mak Kwan Im (Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva) and Se Pa Lo Han (18 Arahants), and many smaller halls which hosted others devas/deities/gods/goddesses.

The Theravadan temple is at the back. They have a big dhammasala with the Buddha statues, Kutis for the bhikkhus who need to stay there, and offices for the organisers. Aside from the routine puja bakti rituals ams dhamma classes, they also actively hold frequent social events here (such as blood donor, free medical check ups, goodie bags distribution).

We'll again another 'gāma vāsī-city monastery.' Which comes with all those things you love about monasteries in cities.. Lots of noise! Lots of activity! Lots fun? Well for monastics its not really fun... at all. There is activity almost every day, youth groups and everything else, I have visited and stayed there albeit only temporarily, and I guess due to the frequent turnover rate, infrequency and lack of sati the last time I went there the laypeople were being a bit strange. In the sense that they were suspicious of a monk traveling during the rains (eventhough there are two), and as a result were unwelcoming. Ironically enough when I saw the upasika on a later occasion in which you would have thought it would have dawned that her/their previous 'diṭṭhi-māna' about not liking monk coming to 'their place' which they don't know or whatever was a little delusional, but it didn't seem to register, so won't be going back there anytime soon. For monks its place...

Selain tempat berdoa, vihara ini terdapat tempat yang sangat bagus untuk berfoto.tepatnya di samping pintu masuk, biasanya jika pagi tertutup oleh pasar.tetapi jika sudah siang menjelang sore, spot ini sangat keren. Dengan menyerupai arsitektur candi borobudur dan gambar wajah seperti leak.
