This place is a beautiful respite from urban life in the foothills of the Dublin mountains. The gardens are beautiful, very well laid out and very calming to walk around.

The grounds are still in development with new play areas for kids in the works (they opened the slide a while ago which is pretty cool and the kids love flying down it TIP Bring an IKEA bag or even better a jute type bag for the kids on a damp day...helps them get a bit more speed and you will get brownie points from them!)

There is a stream that has multiple spots for kids to play in and lots of large open spaces and other places to roam around. Several hiking trails start at the park also and continue up towards Ticknock woods. One word of warning, wear long pants and stay out of the long grass as there are deer that freely roam (and you might come across ) and there is always a small danger of tick bites and lyme disease.

Overall a lovely place for a family outing or a...

Update: I went to the dog park for the first time and I was surprised with the gates they put. The gap between the gates and the ground was too big so a small dog could come out. And the gate itself has big gap in the middle. I can see the holes on the frames so they could put more bars but some reason they didn't. Actually my puppy jumped out through the gap and went outside...hilarous. Even though outside of dog park is safe enough with huge green but the gates should be built properly.

This park is small compared to marley or cabinteely but it has own character with lovely garden and quite places. I sometimes go to the public path beside fernhill garden enterence before it opens (usually it opens at 8:30) and come back to the park on the way down. Handy to have a running track and a dog park...

What a beautiful place & it's kind off hidden but absolutely beautiful views to see, it's a must see great for the kids or if your into your sports great running rubber track to run around without any interruptions & some workout bars to train on. Theirs plenty of squirrels to be seen & if your lucky enough you'll see the dear that does be hiding in the background lots of space for your tribe off kids to have a great day out. There's plenty of parking & there's also outdoor toilets & a water refill for your drinking bottle which is a brilliant Idea. There's a lovely smell as you walk around, maybe it's autumn in the air, & lovely sounds of the wildlife all around, it's a place you can surely lose yourself for a few hours & not a...

Fernhill Gardens and estate was privately owned and had an entry fee of €8 up till 2009. During 2008-2011 downturn, the estate was on sale. @dlrcc - Dunlaoghaire Rathdown county council bought estate and went on to open the gardens in the summer of 2018 (2nd June 2018) to the public. Over the years, the park & gardens are being developed and its gaining so much popularity with locals & visitors too. In fact, this should be botanical gardens of the DLRCC & there is so much scope as one can trek up the dublin mountains, using this park as the base camp. One can go up to Blue light pub for a pint & enjoy the Dublin bay & Howth views from the Outside seating area of Blue light pub
