Marlay Park: A Perfect Day Out for Everyone
Marlay Park is a hidden gem tucked away in Rathfarnham. Whether you're seeking a relaxing stroll with the family, a challenging hike, or a dose of history, this expansive park caters to everyone.
For families, Marlay Park is a dream come true. Wide open spaces allow children to run free, while dedicated playgrounds keep them entertained for hours. The park even boasts a miniature railway, offering a delightful experience for young train enthusiasts (and maybe some not-so-young ones too!).
Those seeking a more strenuous activity will find plenty of trails to explore. Gentle paths meander through woodlands, while more rugged terrain offers a challenge for avid walkers. And the best part? The park's vast size ensures you can find a peaceful corner away from the crowds, allowing you to truly commune with nature.
Marlay Park isn't just about nature, though. History buffs will be delighted by Marlay House, a beautifully restored Georgian residence. Take a tour to step back in time and explore the grand rooms and elegant courtyards.
Foodies won't be disappointed either. The park hosts regular markets where you can find an array of delicious treats and fresh produce. Stock up on picnic essentials or grab a bite to eat after your walk - the perfect way to refuel and enjoy the lovely park atmosphere.
And for those with a green thumb, the Kitchen Garden is a must-see. This meticulously maintained space showcases a variety of plants and herbs, offering a glimpse into sustainable gardening practices.
Marlay Park has truly impressed me. It's a place where families can bond, nature lovers can explore, and history buffs can delve into the past. With its stunning scenery, diverse activities, and charming historical touches, Marlay Park is a guaranteed crowd-pleaser. I highly recommend it for a day out you...
Read moreAlways a good way to spend a good sunny day at the park. Easily accessible by bus number 16, and close to Centra and Lidl (opposite the road, 2min from the main entrance and parking lot) for a last minute shopping. We are gladly coming back to the Children’s playground with our family. It is a good 10mins walk from the entrance, but definitely worth it. It offers engagement for all ages and has a variety of different swings, slides, including a sensory area for children with additional needs. The big swing and the view from the hill swings are amazing. It has a sand area and a Once upon a time wooden chairs area great for excursions and, for example, crèche outdoor activities. There's another parking lot close to the playground which is sometimes closed, depending on the occasion (concert etc.). In front of the playground there is a workout area, concrete football field and also worth mentioning, a sculpture on the top of the hill with a stunning view. Starting this year from May, there's a small seasonal train for children which is another thing to do (would require booking though, picture attached). There are toilets in the coffee shop close to the entrance and weekend's vendors, on the way to the park and at the children's playground. It has a good few big grass playgrounds ideal for football or any other sport or dog walks, along with a few tennis courts. There are a couple of running tracks. The coffee shop I've found to be a bit pricey, but regarding the location it's not. It can be crowded at the weekends, and the playground could require occasional queuing. I love the live music and vendors on the weekends, it makes this place come alive. Would...
Read moreFabulous park at the foothills of the Dublin mountains. The staff do a wonderful job maintaining this beautiful park. There are two great playgrounds for children, one catering for smaller children and the other catering for the older ones. There is an enclosed area for dogs to socialise and run. On Saturday at 2.30pm there is a steam train run by volunteers for children to ride on. There are tennis courts and soccer pitches as well as plenty of free space for games or to picnic. Also, on Saturday there is a good market selling local produce and on Sunday there is another market selling food and gifts. In the courtyard you will find a variety of shops selling arts and crafts. The walled garden is worth a visit as well as the flowers you will see peacocks and hens. The Wicklow Way Cafe at the top end of the park serves delicious freshly made food, scones, desserts and teas and coffee. I would highly recommend a visit to the park. Everyone will enjoy it, young and old there is something for...
