Read moreWent down to kilmore to get the ferry across the saltees islands. The ferry crossing was grand that day (but I was told it can be rough) so my twopence worth is to dress accordingly for the crossing. The day we went over is was lovely but you have still to cross open water. The couple beside us in shorts and tshirts got soaked with no change because a wave came over the boat.
Secondly getting off be careful depending on tides you may have to walk over slippery rocks ( seen people fall on their ass going over and coming back)

It is very close to my heart as my father used to be a guest of honour here at the annual rememberance ceremony in June each year to remember those lost at sea. He passed away in 2014 so 2012 was the last visit by me. The memorial needs some TLC and I hope that it is restored to the standard of 2012.
