On this visit to Wexford myself and son stayed in a local B&B out in Camolin not too far of a drive from Ferns about 10 minutes. Anyway it was recommended we take a visit to Ferns castle the old capital of Leinster way before Dublin was named capital around 1100's we learned alot about a local man Diarmaid Mac Murchadha and his adventures and accomplishments as a king, little did we know he would be the one to bring the English to Ireland to try banish the Normans from this country but they invaded Ireland instead and he seen the worst of the worst as he was tortured and sentenced to death and hung and his body parts were displaced and is now buried in two places in Ireland the church down the road from this castle and in Kilkenny. Anyway the tour guide Marie was great working on Sunday, she had alot of knowledge on the subject and knew of the many ways of life back then in medevil Ireland, there was a few on the tour, and we got to see inside the one remaining tower as the rest was blown up many years ago. The castle is located in Ferns a small town in Wexford with alot of historical buildings and places. The centre had alot of history inside and it was very interesting. I would recommend taking a trip to this old time piece as it was free of charge and very interesting. There is medevils games on the lawn which are fun to play. We enjoyed every moment and learned a few things...

My son (ASD) was a bit scared of the dark and uneven steps going up the tower but with the encouragement from the lovely tour guide he made it to the top. He even got the round of applause in the end so he was very proud of himself. Very interesting visit. Larry, the tour guide was amazing, very informative, funny and kind to the kids. I was told, you can bring the picnic and have it outside of the castle. Might do...
Read moreUnfortunately, didn't get the ladies name in the visitor's centre. But she made our kids feel special. Speaking to them, giving them tickets to the tower etc. Our tour guide, Katie, lovely young lady, (impressed our kids) was very informative, but also pleasant and friendly . The tapestries are amazing, fabulous grounds but the tour inside the tower is awesome. Not putting any inside photos, it needs to be seen. Recommend to all. Spotless toilets. Free parking, free admission. Fantastic...
