Beautiful, well-maintained trail with varying changes in terrain and scenery as you progress along. Doing the loop counterclockwise makes the most sense. You can warmup on the flat terrain beside the gorgeous upper lake, then tackle the stone climb to elevation going uphill, which I think is safer as some of the stones may be slippery. The uphill will take you along the stream and waterfalls that feed into the upper lake. Along the ridge line of the lake there are wooden boardwalks so there is less stepping up and a more gradual elevation change. This was definitely one of the highlights of our Ireland trip. I envy the locals who can do this on a regular basis, what a fantastic walk!

Beautiful trail! Different walking route lenghts are available, but I would recommend one of the trails that goes up the mountains. (Only White, Red and Blue walking routes) The ledge has no railing, but i never felt unsafe despite being afraid of hights.

Beautiful views of the upper and lower lakes and Miners village. From the car park you ascend about 350m and needs moderate fitness to climb up. Give at least a couple of hours to climb up and get back to the car park.
