Wonderfull walks and of enormous historic significance. There is a visitor's centre close to the lower lake where you can get a map with various walks and their level of difficulty. I would recommend you begin your visit here, especially for first time visitors. I have visited Glendalough many times and regardless or the weather have found it to be a place of remarkable beauty. Weekends are very busy and the narrow roads can be full of tourist busses coming and going, so a weekday visit would be my recommendation. It is one hour from Dublin by car, there is also a bus service from Dublin city centre for 20 euros return, and many guided tours that will include transport. I always bring some lunch and a drink for the walk, there is a take away in the upper car park and a decent hotel if you'd prefer. My mobile was never out of service. Glendalough can be enjoyed without to much effort but if you want there are some serious hill walks here. Well...

Choć zawsze pełna ludzi GLENDALOUGH VALLEY , pozostaje w ciszy i mistycznej zadumie , typowej dla miejsca uświęconego wiekami modlitwy , nauki oraz ciężkiej pracy jej dawnych mieszkańców . Tysiące mnichów wykształconych w tym ważnym ośrodku irlandzkiego monastycyzmu , rozpoczynały stąd swoją drogę krzewienia chrześcijaństwa pośród ludów Europy . Opactwo w Glendalough zostało założone przez św. Kevina w VI wieku .

It a nice hiking place. Enough facilities. Toilets aren’t good but usable. Different routes to hike. I believe more guides need for the place. There many parts of the routes without any explanation in the map or signs in place. Anyway these are details, in general this is wonderful place to visit with friends and family. I wish we could do the BBQ but it seems there are reasons why they...

One of the most magical places in Ireland, steeped in ecclesiastical history. The landscape has a timeless feel, largely unspoilt and abounding in flora and fauna. For the more adventurous, try the 3.5 hour walk around the upper lake. Watch out for deer. Avoid visiting on Sundays and bank holiday Mondays when parking is a nightmare.

For all nature lovers Wicklow mountains are destination to be marked on to see list. Place is enormous and if you are willing to go for a hike, don't forget to gear up! Parking lot is 4 euros and it's for whole day. Only thing what i find bad is road that is tight and it doesn't give you much space between two cars when passing by.

This is one of the most beautiful places I ever visited. 3+ km walking path with various hiking difficulties. Lots of stops to rest and get a beverage as needed. Free to park and see the wonderful sites. Just an amazing spot! If you're in Dublin well worth the drive (and to drive on your own so you don't have to rush).
