We decided on the Spinc and Glenealo Valley Trail (White Route) which is not for the faint of heart. It was a 9.5 km (6miles) loop that included a 380m (1250ft) climb to the top of the mountain. We followed the ridge across a wooden ridge path and down into a valley below. On the back side of the mountain the wooden path ended and changed into cobblestone. Across the foot path and heading back to upper lake the path zig zagged steep down into another valley below. The loose rocks were hard on my ankles and knees. We passed a woman on the way down that was barely able to do the descend with her husband's help. Half way down the path we were passed by 3 paramedics and 4 Mountain Rescuers carrying various first aid and evac equipment. They said they were hoping to carry her down on the stretcher and not need a helicopter medivac. At the bottom of the pass we heard the heli coming over the mountain. It circled a few times, monitoring the situation from the sky, before leaving the way it came. I'm hoping that's good news. Now I'm down the road at Lynhams of Laragh drinking a pint and icing my knee. Well worth every step and...
Read moreThis trail is sooooooo beautiful and so worth it!!! Make sure you have a good condition, as it's 10km in total and it goes really up on the mountain with a height difference of 450m according to Strava. But oh my is this a beautiful trail with a wonderful view on the Glendalough lake. Wear good hiking boots, as the wooden steps can be slippery when it's rainy as well as the big rocks next to the waterfall/river that's going down to the river. That's quite the climb, but really gorgeous!! One of the most beautiful trails and pure nature I've ever seen. I felt like I was on the lord of the rings movieset. Down in the valley near the waterfall, you will find the old miner's village. Right before the lake there's a car park with toilets which are really well taken care of....
Read moreThe trail is moderate not too hard and had a decent climb with an elevation gain and the overall circuit close to 15km. Carrying minor snacks and about three four pauses at various vantage points are comfortable.Dogs can be brought along on a leash. Track is rocky and advisable to definitely be prepared gear wise a beginner trekking boot or a sturdy walking shoe is enough at least in good weather.I used a Kalenji running shoe performed well.Parking is often a problem if your not sufficiently early.Minor water activities at the start or end of the walk may also be attempted changing and rest rooms are...
