DEFINITELY WORTH A VISIT Antonio Ligabue didn't own a house in his lifetime, but when he wasn't in hospital he was sleeping in stables or the like, and he presented his work in exchange for food, help, or just kindness. In this small, privately own museum you'll get a chance to see some of his early paintings, some of his belongings, and a video (not to be missed) documenting the painter's life in this quiet, charming town. The guide/museum owner, who met Ligabue as a child and whose family gave him food and shelter will tell you touching details of this artist's life. How he painted while obsessively listening to Beethoven on his phonograph. How he made sculptures out of clay found in the fields that were never fired, and just crumbled in the heat and wetness of the Po plains. His impossible love for a local woman. The sources of some of his paintings. The main museum in Gualtieri is closed for renovation work, but this museum is definitely something different. There is no entrance fee, but I left an offer...
