Galleria Henry — Attraction in Bugerru/Buggerru

We booked this tour for our little ones (3 and 1 years) to have a nice experience with the train ride. As we read in the references here, you can only visit with prebooked tickets, so we booked them 3 days in advance. To our surprise, there were already stained signs that the train isn't running, when we finally got there. Given that the signs were quite stained this seemed to us that this was no unexpected or sudden event. At the ticket counter we then asked the staff for a refund, as the whole purpose of our visit was gone. Unfortunately the staff was not really speaking English and we're not interested in a refund. So we did the tour, which was basically walking 2km in a tunnel with some stops where a guide said something in Italian. At the end the experience was very disappointing, not because of the lack of English speaking guides, but due to the fact that the train wasn't running as this information could have been put on the website (given the vintage of the sign, this must be at least a week old), in which case we would not have booked and saved ourselves from this disappointment.

Ps:if your also intending to visit with small children and the train is not running, bring a dtroller... the path through the tunnel is actually doable...

Visitare la Galleria Henry è come fare un salto nel passato. Un passato fatto di industrializzazione ma a che costo, parliamo di una città nata grazie alla miniera e chiamata la piccola Parigi cinta da una muraglia e che ha ospitato negozi, luoghi di ricreazione e persino la prima macchina immatricolata in Sardegna e targata 131. A tutto ciò si contrapponeva la vita dei minatori e delle loro famiglie, vita media 36 anni, bambini che a 5 anni cominciano a lavorare alla cernita del minerale ma che inizieranno ad essere pagati a circa 8 anni e donne che dovevano lavorare fino al giorno prima del parto e dopo 3 giorni dovevano essere nuovamente operative, ospedale solo maschile e regole anche per i matrimoni. Abitazioni fuori dalle mura che chiamarle così si rischia di dare l'impressione che dentro ci si potesse vivere per davvero. Una storia che parla di persone utilizzate al posto dei muli perché a differenza loro, anche se stanchi non si fermavano, persone che non ricevevano un salario ma un libretto con su un importo da spendere solo nei negozi di Buggerru. Una storia però che parla anche di rivendicazione, quando "il bas*d0" (soprannome dato ad un dirigente della miniera e chiamato cosìin tutti documenti che parlano di lui) chiede troppo a chi sta già dando la sua vita, i circa 4000 minatori riescono a far sentire la loro voce e nonostante i tentativi di sedare le rivolte, ottengono diritti e migliorie. Una storia che non ci porta troppo lontano, circa 80 anni fa e fare un giro per queste gallerie, vedere con i propri occhi ed immaginare cosa significasse vivere al buio, riempie la vita di gratitudine verso chi ha fatto si che la nostra terra sia al punto di oggi. Grazie alla guida che è stata esaustiva e coinvolgente, al personale gentile e disponibile. Il biglietto vale ogni centesimo, anche se fatto on line, dovrete comunque presentarvi alla biglietteria per ritirare cuffia sottocasco (anche per i bimbi), e lasciare un documento per la torcia. Il giro si svolge per metà a piedi e metà col trenino, il percorso si può fare anche con i piccoli ma si raccomandano scarpe comode ed eventualmente una giacchina. In corrispondenza delle entrate ci sono dei moscerini ma non sono fastidiosi. Il percorso offre scorci incredibili anche per fare delle foto da cartolina. Super...

Great tour of an old mining complex supporting the zinc mining industry. The guide was knowledgeable and friendly, the views were spectacular. It’s underground, so fine to do on a rainy day or when it’s very hot.

The tour is in Italian. Audio guides are available in English, French, and German. Listen to the first three sections before the tour and the last two at the sorting area at the end of the tour.

Length is about an hour, walking through level, graveled mine tunnels. Wear comfortable shoes but this is not an athletic event. Easier than walking...
