Once you are in Collonata village, it's worth getting to this monument, as it's located in the historical center of the willage. From here you can enjoy a spectacular view of the surrounding marble mountains. While there are better view points if you make a bit of hiking up, it's very convenient to get to this monument by walk. We parked our car outside of the village right before the sign "Restricted Traffic Zone". Then it took us 15 mins walk up the asphalt road. It's pretty steep. There are also busses which can take you up (ask some locals about the price, we didn't check). But it's an option to save some time and efforts. The busses go up and down the road (to/from village) pretty often (like every 10 mins or so). In the village you can also buy some marble souveniers. There are a few...

Colonnata, piccolo borgo a circa 7 km dal centro di Carrara, è un antico paese di cavatori situato a 700 metri di altezza, sulle pendici delle Alpi Apuane. E’ conosciuto in tutto il mondo per la produzione del lardo, un tempo alimento povero divenuto oggi una prelibatezza, e per le sue cave di marmo, da cui viene estratto, fin dall’epoca romana, il cosidetto oro bianco. Sono stato a visitare questa statua con la mia ragazza durante la sagra del lardo di Colonnata. Il monumento è realizzato in marmo bianco e raffigurante alcune fasi di lavorazione durante l'estrazione della famosa pietra calcarea originaria di Carrara. Il memoriale è a ricordo di tutti i cavatori che hanno perso la vita su queste alture. Sullo sfondo della statua si possono ammirare le immense cave di marmo che durante la notte...
