After our disappointing experience at Castello di Verazzano, we were eager to discover a more welcoming venue, and that’s when we stumbled upon Montecalvi Winery just a short 10-minute drive away from them. As soon as we arrived, we were warmly greeted, which immediately lifted our spirits. The friendly atmosphere and natural hospitality of the staff set a positive tone for our tasting experience. After a brief but delightful chat, we dove into the tasting and were genuinely impressed. It was evident that passion and dedication permeated every aspect of the winery, making our time there all the more enjoyable. We had the pleasure of sampling their white wine, Viognier, along with all their red offerings. Each wine was noteworthy, but two reds particularly stood out to us: the Alta Valle Della Greve and the premium Vigna Vecca. Both were exceptional and showcased the quality of the wines produced at Montecalvi. In summary, our experience at Montecalvi was a refreshing contrast to our earlier visit. The combination of excellent product quality, outstanding hospitality, and the evident passion of the team created a memorable experience. I highly recommend a visit to Montecalvi Winery, and we certainly look forward to returning the next time we are in the region. A true gem...
Read moreBest experience EVER. Don't sleep on Montecalvi!!! My fiancé and I visited Florence in October 2022, in which we drove out to the countryside to visit this winery. Everything from the service, the wines, the olive oil, the personalized tour, the staff, everything was amazing. We will remember this experience for the rest of our lives. Silvia was short a person on the day we visited so her husband (who normally runs their butcher shop in Greve in Chianti) came to help her out. Long story short she gave us the most amazing private wine tour, sat with us/got to know us, we became friends! She ended up inviting us to their butcher shop on a Sunday even though they were closed because we mentioned we had a grill at our air b and b that we wanted to use to cook something with our wine! We met her husband again and her daughter and even got a coffee with them afterwards in town. Hands down one of the most memorable experiences in our lives. We will never forget Silvia and her family! Not the mention the wine is fantastic and their olive oil...to die for. Also definitely visit their butcher shop in...
Read moreSmall, very small winery, limited car parking space but big on wines to taste. Given the tiny size of the estate the smallest we have ever visited over the decades, the area allocated for wine making and storage is also very very small. Large table for tasting, five wines, the most we ever tasted at one seating. Exception perhaps was in Reims, champagne. We were staying at a Castel near Siena, some 45 hectares and the charge 25 for three wines. So thirty for five wines was a good price. I don't know what they are now charging in Bordeux 1855 Grand Crux Classe vineyards but when we did visit be it Margeux, Pomeroy, Graves/Sauternes, St.Emillion etc etc never did we pay anywhere near the charges levied in Chianti not even thirty euros. Some Chianti vineyards charge 120 euros for three wines, bonkers? Enthusiastic staff, worth a visit but...
