My visit to Paolo Bea dramatically transformed my Montefalco trip into an incredibly wonderful experience. The winery's architecture, designed by its owner Giampiero, combines sustainability with local materials and natural scientific principles for energy efficiency. The tasting of three distinct Sagrantino wines, all harvested in the same year but from different vineyards, was a very interesting tasting that beautifully demonstrated the role of terroir. An expensive tasting vs others around because of the quality and cost of the wine they produce here. We are big natural wine fans so it was a treat to see how the family had been producing in a sustainable way, working with the environment, for a generation. We were so looking forward to trying this wine but it was like hot tea. The owner said charge them half price!! We should have gave him twice the tasting cost if he needed...
