Herewith a critical review by a Bitossi collector of our visit to the Bitossi museum last Tuesday. I drove 1500km with my wife to visit the museum and made an appointment in advance by email. Arriving at the museum it is not entirely clear where to go in, so I rang the bell at the small gate. The door was electronicly opened and then we waited for a while, but no one came. A moment later we saw an employee talking to another employee and after addressing her we were led to the waiting room. After a few minutes a young man came and received us kindly and we were able to proceed to the 1st section where there were some pieces by Ettore Sottsass. Then we walked upstairs and the young man while walking told us the history of the factory. On the 1st floor were many 1000s of beautiful pieces nicely displayed by year and we wanted to see and photograph them at our leisure, but the young man was in a hurry apparently and wanted to finish the tour quickly we could tell. In total the tour lasted about 40 minutes and we were not allowed to look around by ourselves without guidance. That was quite a disappointment. Half of the pieces are in a rack behind the front rack and we were not allowed to go there either. Kind of weird a museum where you can't see about a quarter to a third...
Read moreMy family and I visited the Bitossi Museum this past May, and was an incredible experience. I got in touch with the museum via email to arrange a free tour in English; they were very accommodating and prompt. When we arrived to the museum we used the call box to let them know of our arrival and our wonderful guide, Marta, came down to greet us. She then took us on a tour of the newly build museum room by room, explaining the history of Bitossi and the transformation of their products over the years. As someone who particularly loves Bitossi, it was incredible to see so many pieces in one place. I was with family who didn't know as much about it, but had formed a real appreciation by the end of the tour. There was not a store (yet) where visitors could purchase pieces on site, but hopefully there will be one in the future. They recommended buying from their website. One of the best things we did while in Italy, I would highly...
