Castello Mediceo in Ottaviano — Attraction in Ottaviano

Their Christmas market was great. We got there about an hour before sunset so parking was easy. Free to enter. Lots of stuff to see and food to try & buy. Pictures with Santa for 5€. It was getting pretty crowded and parking seemed a nightmare when we were leaving around 630.

Not easy for a stroller or people with walking difficulty and definitely not wheelchair friendly. Entry area is deep loose gravel that we couldn't push the stroller through. Ramp up to main area is steep and very uneven stone. Impossible with a stroller. Then at the top there's about 3 flights of stairs to get up to the top area. It's just the way the place is built. Bellissima struttura del 1500 costruita per essere un castello infatti, presenta nella sua architettura i caratteri di fortificazione tipici di queste strutture. Nell'800 è stato "declassato" al rango di palazzo e conserva ancora le caratteristiche di una struttura che ha "vissuto" la storia, si leggono ancora le scritte alle pareti dei soldati americani che lo hanno occupato durante la seconda guerra mondiale. Dopo le vicissitudini giudiziarie è stato acquisito al patrimonio dello stato ed affidato al comune di Ottaviano e sede del Parco Nazionale del Vesuvio.
