En vacances à Rome, à la recherche d’activités et de visites originales, nous sommes tombés sur cette proposition de visite assez atypique. Au départ, nous avons hésité à y aller à cause des nombreux avis négatifs… Mais étant passionnés de cinéma, nous avons finalement été tentés.

Dès l’arrivée, l’accueil a été très agréable : une dame nous a reçus avec le sourire, parlant parfaitement français. Elle nous a tout de suite expliqué ce qu’il y avait à voir, et ce qui n’était pas accessible ce jour-là — notamment certains décors grandeur nature, ouverts seulement certains jours de la semaine.

Une fois à l’intérieur, nous avons commencé par la salle des costumes, sûrement la partie la plus intéressante ! Il y avait aussi des décors de films : cette section était vraiment top. L’expérience d’immersion avec un fond vert était très amusante, et permettait de mieux comprendre le travail de postproduction dans le cinéma.

La visite se termine dans le décor du sous-marin américain S-33, construit pour le film U-571 du réalisateur Jonathan Mostow — un moment vraiment impressionnant.

Dans un autre bâtiment, il y avait des statues et des éléments de décoration de films, mais cette partie manquait malheureusement d’explications. C’est dommage, car on ne savait pas toujours ce que l’on regardait.

Nous avons aussi pu entrer dans des décors de maisons qui, de l’extérieur, semblaient vraies, mais à l’intérieur on découvre que ce sont simplement des façades. C’était une découverte marquante, très impressionnante et sympathique.

En revanche, certains éléments étaient moins réussis : quelques décors étaient simplement posés à l’extérieur, sans vraie mise en scène. Le carrosse, par exemple, était magnifique mais très mal placé, ce qui empêchait de le prendre correctement en photo. Le musée en lui-même était assez étrange. Il ne semblait pas vraiment centré sur le cinéma, ou en tout cas donnait l’impression de répéter les mêmes choses d’une pièce à l’autre. Je ne recommande pas spécialement cette partie.

Une belle visite dans l’ensemble, mais un peu chère à mon goût pour ce qu’il y a à voir. Il faudrait soit revoir les tarifs à la baisse, soit enrichir l’expérience avec plus de modernité et de contenus pour que ce soit vraiment parfait. À retenir : un musée sympa, mais qui manque clairement de modernité.

In vacanza a Roma, abbiamo deciso di visitare questo museo dedicato al cinema, incuriositi nonostante i commenti contrastanti. L’accoglienza è stata ottima, con spiegazioni chiare in francese.

La sala dei costumi è stata la parte più interessante, insieme ai set cinematografici e all’esperienza con il green screen, molto divertente. Il set del sottomarino di U-571 è stato davvero impressionante.

Alcune aree, però, mancavano di spiegazioni e sembravano trascurate. Il museo nel complesso è curioso ma un po’ ripetitivo, e alcuni elementi erano mal valorizzati.

Una bella esperienza, ma il prezzo è alto per quello che viene offerto. Museo simpatico, ma manca chiaramente...

Beware! You cannot visit the Film Sets (currently the Roma series) on weekdays. We went on a Friday and didn't know this. After the visit, I suggested to put a written sign for clarity and to help non-Italians and they argued it is not necessary because they told me so (in Italian) when buying the tickets and because it is mentioned on the internet. I later checked the internet and the info was not there and the site outdated. No surprise after all. It's the all too typical Roman semi-professional way which I have encountered often after 6 years of living in beautiful but chaotic Roma. We also did not see the Ettore Scola studio, advertised on the internet. The Jerusalem set is listed as permanent but it is not there anymore. So better check by telephone what's available...
