È monumentale, con i suoi sette sarcofagi, l’affascinante Tomba degli Atleti, il più importante ipogeo funerario di età arcaica nell'area tarantina, oggi custodito a Taranto al piano terra della scuola Mazzini, all’angolo tra via Crispi e via Pitagora.

Di pianta quadrangolare, interamente costruita e ricoperta da blocchi di carparo regolari, svela una concezione dello spazio concepito come un “andròn”, la sala da banchetto riservata agli uomini nella casa greca di età arcaica, dove si trovavano le klinai, i letti addossati alle pareti. Dopo o prima aver visitato il MarTa (Museo) , è importante visitare la Tomba degli Atleti per incrementare la conoscenza del territorio Tarantino e rendersi conto della grandezza storica del luogo.
