This guest house and winery combine some very nice elements, but also have some downsides worth mentioning. It offers an undeniably beautiful view of Montepulciano. The design of the rooms are very sleek and modern. The breakfast was very tasty and is served in a very cozy dinning room. However, it must also be noted that the winery is at the end of a very bumpy and dusty gravel road. If you are in anything other than a cheap rental car it is not very pleasant to drive on. We were in a rented classic Alfa Spyder when we drove down the gravel tracks and managed to scrape the bottom on a number of bumpy spots. I personally would not want to drive down this road with an expensive modern sports car for example. The other gripe we had was with the complimentary wine tasting and the check out procedure during which we felt no attention was paid to us as the staff were set on preparing for a bigger group that was coming in for lunch. It simply would have been nice to be greated with a smile at the reception area and perharps offered some further explanation of the the production process or the history of the winery. Instead the complimentary tasting felt inpesonal, cold and formal. In conclusion, the design and location of the guest house are perfect, but the lack of a personal touch and the gravel road let this property down in...
Read moreYesterday my friend and I visited Salcheto Winehouse and did a tour and tasting. The tour started off with a sweet white wine that resembled apple juice. We then were taken on a very short tour of just the cellars. No mention of grapes, vines, climate, soil or anything one would like to know that makes particular wines special and taste the way they do. We learned some amazing facts about sustainability and the practices the vineyard uses. That was very inspiring and the reason we came in the first place. We then had an awkward and horrible tasting of three wines (the website said four?) where the woman would disappear for 15 minutes in between each pour and leave us to make awkward small talk with the other people on the tour. She didn’t bring out all the wine to start, like any other tasting ever. The wines were not good. Their Nobile was the only one that was drinkable, but we definitely didn’t want more. The worst part of the whole experience was that it costs 16 Euro each... and we’ve been traveling all over Tuscan Wine Coutry for days having incredible and free tastings and tours. This area has such phenomenal wine and this vineyard is a letdown and disappointment and waste on money. I do not recommend to any...
Read moreI didn't choose Salcheto based on reviews (although those are impressive). I booked a tour because I wanted to support a company who designed a lightweight bottle. The wines tasted were delicious, but the tour was lacking. I was disappointed how quickly the tour guide moved our small group of 8 along. The tasting lacked a personal touch, wines were poured and the host left. There was no narration and/or discussion. Luckily the wines didn't fall flat like the tasting. My favorite was the Nobile di Montepulciano RISERVA DOCG, which was one of the bottles that came home with me. I was happily surprised the flavor didn't dissipate after being uncorked for a few days.
My recommendation to this company is to tell their guests more...tell us about the significance of the tree on the label, tell us about the hands harvesting your grapes, go into detail about your solar bubbles and definitely share (Shout!) about your innovative bottles. And what about the beautiful culinary garden? So much was left unsaid. I hope those who follow leave better informed, because the wine is good and I love the sustainability practices of...
