Sarteano Castle — Attraction in Unione dei Comuni Valdichiana Senese

I loved this castle. As you climb the levels it is easy to imagine how they felt living in the place day to day and also how it must have felt during times of conflict. There are five levels with good descriptions of life there and incredible views of the countryside for miles. I really felt the past come alive. I highly suggest visiting this castle and this town. Very much a work in progress as there are no displays of armour, arms, paintings, furniture etc that one normally finds in a castle. Wonderful views from the battlements and a pleasant little garden to stroll through. Inside of the castle there's not much of interest to look at. The stairs are quite steep, so steer clear if you have dodgy knees or ankles. However it's worth an hour if you're passing through the area. ♖📷La Fortezza di Sarteano che spicca dalla sua altura sul paese di Sarteano, si differenzia dalle altre costruzioni difensive militari grazie al suo poderoso maschio, modificato su una precedente Rocca nel XVI Sec. dall'architetto Baldassare Peruzzi, quella che divenne perciò fortezza acquisendo la forma attuale, era così capace di resistere ad attacchi ad armi col fuoco.

Perso il ruolo militare e strategico ed abbandonata ha subito un percorso di recupero da parte del comune, ad oggi è visitabile, tramite un percorso che dal centro storico, ricco di luoghi da visitare, conduce al parco cittadino, sempre fresco d'estate.

Composta da 4 piani, ospita al suo interno mostre fotografiche, anche di grande importanza, grazie alla collaborazione con il Milan Photo Festival, uno dei più importanti in Italia e al mondo.

🔎CURIOSITÀ: Una particolarità molto interessante è senza ombra di dubbio il passaggio 'segreto' all'interno della fortezza, il passaggio stretto e buio vi porterà direttamente dall'ultimo piano al piano terra, da provare.

La Fortezza è sempre aperta grazie al lavoro del personale, gentile e disponibile, fra i migliori con cui io abbia avuto a che fare. Visitare la fortezza ed il paese di Sarteano è anche un buon modo per fare turismo di qualità, in un paese che ha investito e continua ad investire molto, premiando così la qualità dei luoghi visitati!
